This what you're looking for?

Still I'd be really interested to know how you found those times though at that price? When I find the same ones (just tried) it comes up at $706 USD. Is there something I am doing wrong?

It's there, same price.

Amazing! This whole time I have been looking with the 'price' radio button and not 'schedule'. I didnt even realise you could choose the exact flights. You have just made the world of difference for me as it means leaving downtown Chicago at 8am rather than 5am.

Thank you so much! Booking right now!

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

Ooh one final quick question. Does that allow for minimum connecting times? I believe it does (and I'm sure the AA website would tell me if not?)

Yep. For example if you select

to connect with

you get

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

How do you guys get such high SCs for so little $$$?

I am struggling to get 80 SCs for A$1100 which is definitely not good value after reading all you guys getting 1 SC <$2.
And all these after going through AA's US, AUS, HKG and SIN sites!

I am trying to get from LAX or LAS to ANC and back to LAX to transit on a CX flight around midnight

Best price I got was LAS>SEA>ANC>SEA>PHX>LAX for A$1063 on Jun 23
Or LAS>DFW>ANC>DFW>LAX for A$1124 on Jul 2

Not particularly doing a status run but would like to maximise SCs. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Ric

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

Because they are in Business/First, eg LAX-DFW = 90 SC as it is "First" class.

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

If I choose First (with restrictions) it comes to nearly 3K! Even 4K!!

You're using aa.com in the USA and not the aussie site? The aussie site is usually much more expensive than the main USA site.

However, if you are already using the USA portal, it may be that there are no special instant upgrades. They do vary by route and time of year.

So when do you need to travel from LAX to ANC and when do you need to return? Do you have whole days or only part days? Or is Anchorage just something you picked? How sensitive are you to missed flights? Why LAS or LAX?

Or are you just trying to do a MR during the day and back to make your midnight flight? Given it is 10 hours of flying each way, this is not possible.

How many SC's do you need?

A little more details and I can link a google flight which can then just book straight through to the AA website.

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

Hi,

not it sure if this is the correct page, but I have an AA question...

i need to to go lax to Ord, then MKE to Jackson hole.

do I buy direct on AA website, or do I go thru qantas, and have a QF no?

Also, I'm qantas gold, so what is better ( or is there any difference ) regarding lounge access / baggage ?

im getting a price in economy about $740, and if in first, it jumps to more than $3000

ive never done a booking like this before, so would love some feedback.

regards

TQ

Look for fares through aa.com USA site, not the aussie site.

You'd buy directly through aa.com, and enter your QF number. This will attach your qantas status to the booking and open up preferred seating (for free!) and annotate your boarding pass for priority access (sometimes for security, but usually for priority boarding).

Your lounge access entitlement should be printed on your boarding pass. They may ask to additionally see your Qantas card, but that's not all that common.

I am assuming you need to stopover at these places? Do you have some dates?

This is a dummy one I just did (USD) http://goo.gl/flights/CtW1

The point is to fly domestic First (equivalent to our business) as it gets points for QFF as though it is Discount First Class, ie. most legs are 90 SC. If you have time, never pick a direct route. eg LAX-ORD, choose LAX-DFW-ORD for 180SC instead of 150SC and generally only few dollars more. FYI. LAX-DFW-ORD in domestic first is the same SC as BNE-LAX in Business.

Hi Moindart,

I am actually travelling to Alaska for a salmon fishing trip. We will be flying into LAX on CX on June 16 and spend some time in LAX and a couple of days in LAS before going to ANC.
We plan to fly into ANC either from LAX or LAS on June 23 and spend a couple of days looking around ANC. Flying into camp from ANC on June 26 morning.

We will be coming out from camp on JuL 2 evening and connect back to LAX to get the CX flight that night.

So thats bascially it.

Thanks,

Ric

I am not sure whether I am reading this right. "from camp on JuL 2 evening and connect back to LAX to get the CX flight that night"

So you are getting back to ANC on the evening of Jul 2 and trying to make a midnight flight out of LAX? Even a direct flight is 5 hours so I am not sure how that is going to happen. I will assume you mean midnight on the 3rd.

Not sure how many SC you are trying to get but I will do an example and you can play from there.

http://goo.gl/flights/3zuC USD$2011 for approx 630 SC. (approx because it says you cant fly ANC to PHX on the return). Could do more but not sure what you need to achieve and budget etc. You are having to fish for your salmon and probably get one John West would reject so you might be a little hard up :p

You could do LAX-ORD-DFW-LAS or LAS-DFW-ORD-PHX-ANC for example (just add ord before anc). ANC is a little funny because you would be limited on where you could fly to there from. At least it gives you a starting point.

Google Flights only has 5 breaks so this is another example http://goo.gl/flights/cIIM USD$2879 for approx 840SC

Hope this helps.

Thanks to to MEL_Traveller too!

Help please. How many status credits for WP and SG flying "First" Vancouver - LAX - Honolulu.

You will only get F on an AA codeshare on AS between YVR-LAX. Assuming it is then 90 for that and 150 for LAX-HNL.
