Am sure this was asked in the past, but where is the preferred destination for MR points. I generally send to SQ or during last SPG promo via SPG to AA but keen to get others views on this!

I like to use MR points for SPG hotel stays. Other ccard points go to airlines for flights.

burmo I just noticed your thread so certainly not ignoring you - I do not hold any AMEX now but SQ always got the bulk - when Velocity first launched they had 50% transfer promo - that was oh so fab - I transferred 180K pts to get 2 x ref J flts MEL-LAX. (Hey VA you remember when you serviced MEL pax with direct USA flts).

I have transferred some to CX also for occasional rdpts but I feel their premium class rdpts nowhere near the value SQ but as always YMMV.

I used them for CX redemptions as I already have plenty of SQ miles on hand.

Missed donating to MS !

I haven't had a MR-earning card for that long, but I'd say my answer would be "wherever they would be useful at the time". I'm looking at a SQ suites award for just over 12 months away, so some will definitely be heading to SQ. I'm still figuring out where the rest are best used on the other part of the trip

Usually to SQ. Have not looked into CX redemptions as I'd always understood them to be poor value??

A flight in hand is better than two in the bush ....

You'd never ever be certain that SQ would be there for you when you need it.

Also, SQ vs CX is a matter of personal preferences as they are more or less even - Suites excepted (balanced by the cabana).

My next OZ EUR is with SQ Suite while the EUR OZ will be with CX F / J so I'm even handed there.

Value ?

Beat QF hands down - every time !

Maybe I should transfer some to CX just to try it. I agree with the hold it until you need it theory usually but have a reason I want to get these out of MR,

In the past I have sent points to VS, SQ, CX on regular basis. Very recently I have sent my MR points to SPG to actually redeem for hotel rooms (not transfer to AA) as HKG hotel rooms are very expensive and Aussie dollar has been dropping like a lead balloon .....

What's the transfer rate to SPG like?

2 MR = 1 SPG

For SPG points the Diners MasterCard (0.625 spg per $) actually earns more than an Amex (0.5 spg per $) on general non bonus spend, but having a diners card decreases your quality of life...

I have an AMEX, but have never redeemed as yet. Preference would be for AA via SPG or KF as you suggest, but could depend on availability etc, velocity not too bad either, but looks like they may have canned the U.S. routes

MH got a lot of mine prior to its devaluation. 51K to Europe was the business
VA and SPG in the future as I'm quite YQ-conscious

What was the exact details of the SPG promo burmo? Do you remember dates please? Do they regularly have promos say like VA?
SPG do I think have promos from time to time to add extra points but then so do the receiving partner.

In this case there was a 20% bonus offer for SPG -- AA transfer. I.e. 40K MR becomes 20K SPG. SPG always give a 5K bonus if you transfer in 20K chunks so 20K SPG becomes 25K AA plus 20% bonus of 5K so effectively 40K MR becomes 30K AA (instead of usual 25K).

Dates were from mid Jul to end August from memory.

Do they do this regularly, well AA has only recently become my US airline of choice, I think they may have done previously. I certainly participated in a similar promo maybe 2 years ago in transferring money to US (my preferred program at the time) which was even better with a 50% bonus, so 40K MR points became 37.5K US. Others may understand this better, I certainly don't think they do it as often as VA.
