Popped the Business Class Cherry on CX134 From Melbourne

The OP should fly Virgin Atlantic Upper Class. A bar for those who want to socialise, a 'coffin' for those who like to stay in their own space. Best of both worlds. Have enjoyed many hours at the VS bar (and Clubhouse).

Just came back from a trip to Taipei and had the privilege of flying Business Class on CX.
The service was amazing, attentive beautiful flight attendants, nice flat bed, entertainment system（hardly used anyway). The only thing missing is the energy of economy; there were a lot of snobby older people who didn't treat the flight attendants well eg. Demanding Espresso coffee in a snappy tone when the flight attendants were pushing trolleys, getting flight attendants to put bags into the overhead compartment when they could really use the excercise.

It was a great experience, but would probably not join business class again because most people are rude, arrogant and really really unfit. Wishing there were more down to earth, younger and good looking people , but perhaps those types don't fly business 

But overall CX great service, really feel for your flight attendants and the type of snobs there are on Business Class, it wouldn't hurt for them to smile once in a while and socialise.

I fly Business and First Class and always help myself in lifting luggages to overhead compartment and I certainly don't think myself demanding. I am a pretty relaxing guy, especially in Business where I am there to relax and enjoy.

Also given you fly CX, most of the travellers could be Asian (and certain region of Asia), and they may have certain culture values which you may not agree on but normal to that culture (eg don't treat FA well, demanding and rude).

A lot of people here are taken aback by your comments here about "young and good looking". I think I know what you are getting at but you do not express it correctly.

I guess you need to fly more to see different kinds of people on Business or First, and on different airlines. Once you fly enough, you will see all kinds of people rather than just one type.

But yes, I found that most people flying Business or First prefer to have their own privacy, as that is one of the major benefits.

Wow, I mean you would forgo the entire business class experience and go back to ECONOMY based on a very small experience. Remember that business class consists of all these things; and more; priority check-in, priority immigration/security, lounge access, priority boarding, better on-board food and drink, MORE seat space and a flat bed, priority de-planing, the potential to be op-upped into First Class, and that if your schedule changes before you fly a greater chance that CX will help you as a premium passenger before they ring the other 200 or so economy passengers.

Anyway, fly more often and you will realise you get all types in premium cabins as you do in any cabin. Once you fly other airlines, you will find out that Cathay Pacific's "sky coffins" aren't really conducive to socialising and there's more ...... however until then, enjoy economy

The disappointing experience may have something to do with the route (TPE-HKG-MEL) which is often full of Chinese business people in J. There are culture differences and what some westerners may consider as rude is acceptable in that part of the world. Similar behaviour described by the OP can be often seen onboard other carriers flying to China.

I would recommend the OP to try other routes in J before forming such a negative opinion.

Jackson Tan you are exactly the type of person why I use my noise cancelling head phones as soon as I sit in my business and first class seat. But wait I won't need to anymore because you will be in Y.

There wasn't many Chinese on board; mostly Australian ( Though I can completely understand this angle, transiting in Beijing last year). I am proud that most Australians are down to earth, maybe a little racist at times(haha). I will try the Europe route, for some reason the Australian people on the European routes are a lot cooler, and from MELBOURNE

Hmmm.. interesting opening post JT.

It left me confused.

I am no snob, I believe I am very nice to staff in planes and everywhere else on earth (even if they are not "beautiful"), I am not arrogant, I am not rude. But on the other hand, often when I travel the plane is one of the few places I can rest, which minimizes my in-flight socializing desire. And I am getting old, haven't "been to the gym" for a long time, and was never "good looking".

So in your world where should I sit in the plane??

It's those types that hand wave and cause a scene that I have observed that are my pet peeve; demanding ridiculous things and being disrespectful.

Believe it or not, I'm the first to point out the rudeness of Mainland Chinese, I'm Taiwanese Background BUT they were actually Australian, with the "oka" accent and from Melbourne!
Most Melbournians I have encountered are beautiful and kind people, but this is not was observed.

Yes will try the European route after recommendation from here, hopefully my view will change. Do like the service It's amazing

JT, the angst you caused with your opening post is that you displayed an attitude where physical appearance is very important to you. You repeated it. that is not very usual. Many people (me included) find that a very shallow and laughable view. But each to their own, I respect the fact that all people are driven by different needs. And I certainly respect your desire to be surrounded by pretty people.

Likewise, I also understand that each person has hopes and desires that match their travel ideals. I truly understand the dismay of going out for a good time and being disappointed that others are not in the same mood. What has been quietly suggested to you here is that many passengers, possibly especially in business, are not travelling for fun. They are not looking to make friends nor chat. They want peace. You should respect that too.

If I was travelling and hoping to "engage" with young, vibrant, good-looking, chatty people, I would go in the back. Most young folk prefer to spend their money in the pub at the destination rather than travel in comfort. I get that. I was there once. And even then the Y cabin was usually full of a majority of "non-good-looking" people, families with babies, fat people , etc. But that is just Life! A Y cabin is a pretty good reflection of reality of what people are.

If you want to seek what you appear to desire, you should be going on charters or tours of young people who are out to get pissed and party. It would improve your odds tremendously.

And could you expand on what those "ridiculous" things there were that J pax demanded? Coffee?

Please don't miscontrue what I said, the gist of it is I had a bad experience with some arrogant people, and saw behaviours that I found offensive, and being one of the only younger passengers, felt a bit off and always expected older people to set an example, and not to show such bad behaviours especially when travelling. You are probably the only reason I would have flown Business Class to begin with.

Add me to the fat snob list, I barely speak to my own husband when we fly - no way am I going to become besties with the random dude next to me that comes across as a overzealous yapper.

Heck, we fly J so we don't have to speak to strangers and are isolated.

Why does everyone assume I'm a yapper haha. It's just about being respectful; as long as your not that Fat Snob who barks at flight attendants its all good. I don't like talking to everyone, and there are times I want to zone out. Thats pretty much everyone

Behaviour in the manner that you describe is rare. It is probably true some passengers have a sense of entitlement, but you get those anywhere. With fewer passengers, more space, and a calmer environment in business class, perhaps you noticed the behaviour more than you would have in economy?

However, if you felt behaviour was offensive, it's up to you to speak up! There is nothing to stop you intervening to tell a passenger they have crossed the line. You just gotta be careful to know that you are actually right, and not applying some misplaced standard or expectation.

Oh the highlight of the trip were the destinations, the people I met and willingness to look after me, and even didn't let me pay. This trip was on par with last year's Europe trip.
I was thinking the Business Class trip would be highlight of the trip, but I got proven wrong and it was actually the WORST. Very grateful Seoul and Taipei were amazing

It's not because they demanded COFFEE ( I love espresso coffee), it's the tone and the inconvenient timing of the order! - Each to their own, I just hope snobs like that don't sit near me ever again
