Planning SYD to LHR then onto Venice (VCE)
If i book QF1 Syd to LHR and then get a separate awards flight LHR to VCE on BA will i need to exit, clear immigration and check back in?
Hoping that since its all OW i can through check everything even on a separate awards flight.

I assume if i did all the above on the one ticket everything would be checked through and i would bet boarding passes in SYD for the BA flight.

Recently, I had 2 separate tickets; QF Syd-Lhr followed by Lhr-Dub on Ba and the F checkin desk at Sydney issued both BPs and checked the bag all the way to Dub:)

OW-OW is usually very seamless, even on different tickets. Being award. It can get tricky if late. But if you hold status. 95% chance you'll be accommodated. Prepare for the worst. If you can live with it. Great. But expect the best in a OW-OW connection.

Sweet
Thanks for the help.
Planning on going either Y+ or J to LHR then Y to VCE. Ill be Silver / OW Ruby by then.

I don't have to go through immigration do I? I can just go to some transfer area and change terminals airside?

No you do not have to go through immigration, you just change terminals.

Should be fine. This is an area OW tends to do well.

As others have mentioned OW-OW should be no troubles, I personally haven't tried BA yet but have done QF -CX and the other way round on separate tickets always been fine.
I have an upcoming UL -QR connection via CMB on separate tickets so hopefully UL are good at this?

Mrs andye had no problems going from an MH reward ticket to a revenue BA at LHR a couple of months back.

Agree there will still be the opportunity to experience the British airport queue when connecting

The LHR website has a description of how connecting between Terminals should proceed

I've had no problem getting UL to check my bags through on different PNR (both on BA and QF). If you happen to be checking in at the "Silk Route" entrance at CMB when flying UL in J, the attendant will do all the work while you sit comfortably in a small lounge. Even better than QF F checkin suite.

Thanks for the info, I'll be flying SIN-CMB(UL) -DOH-DXB(QR) all in J.

I had no problems going JFK-HEL-LHR (award) and then LHR-BHD (revenue) recently, AY/AY/BA respectively. Bags checked through, and even had by BA boarding passes issued in New York on AY stock.

Not sure what the SYD>LHR timing is as you're flying forward in time rather than backwards, I think I was only able to be given BP's for the final leg of the above because check in was open.

As others have mentioned, OW seem to do this well.

Just make sure you have a paper copy of your UL itinerary in SIN. For some reason last month a security guard was manning the entrance to the ckeck in queue and you couldn't get to the desk before he was satisfied you were flying UL. Very odd. I'm unaware of people just showing up at airport and trying to checkin for flights they haven't bought... The attendant at the desk was very helpful though.

Just take a copy of your BA itinerary showing fare bucket so the CSA can add in the LHR/VCE flight after QF1.

It shouldn't matter if the BA ticket is a paid or award ticket - it should still be checked through no problems.
