At least we used to get a meal with a tray ... Now it's a pie in a box. And last week flying Perth to Alice Springs, no milk or stirrers on board..... If you wanted sugar, stir with finger. Not an improvement to service I'd have to say.

To use a particular word beloved on this website, this is clearly and indisputably an 'enhancement.' I wonder which AFFer first use that 'e' word?

That would be Qantas themselves a few years back when they "enhanced" Dom checkin and QP anytime access, and they put it into an email pretending like they where doing us a favour in reducing service. Needless to say about 9 months later they tried to pretend giving back some of what they took was a stroke of genius rather than rolling back terrible changes.

Whilst not everyone is going to find a pie appealing, I don't get why a meal box is automatically a bad thing compared to a meal in a tray.

I think the first use of the E word by Qantas I saw was November 2004 ....

Qantas got the "enhanced" script from BA.

MEL-OOL on VA J a few months back was a pie (or admittedly, two, as I was one of 3 people in the 737 J cabin). Now that was on a plate, but one would expect a plate in J.

On the early morning flight this morning from Darwin to Alice, instead of the quite good cooked meal served with cutlery on a tray, it was a little box. I asked the FA how she liked the change and she commented that it was a pity to lose the nice service they had and now everything is handed out individually .. One milk? Two? Sugar? Etc it used to be some compensation for no audio, video entertainment but now alas .....

On my last QantasLink flight (on a Q300) the FAs ditched the trolley and walked down the aisle offering each item individually too. First they handed out snack boxes, then wine, then beer, then soda, then tea, then coffee and so on. I'm not sure that was particularly time-saving.

Fly in the U.S. Or around Europe and your little box will begin to look goor-met

Thanks for the advice. I do it all the time. That wasn't my point. Up until a couple of weeks ago, Qantas Link always had a very nice meal service and I was commenting on the recent change which I think is a downgrade.

In my experience AC still serves a decent feed on the 1 hour flights (Toronto to Ottawa) whilst AA serves nothing on LA to LAX
