Isn't travel fun? Left my computer/reading glasses in seat pocket. :( Now in SIN waiting for next flight. Arrived in T2 on SQ and went to T3 before realising I left glasses so went straight back to T2.

Still waiting.

If you have the presciption (or you can ring the optometrist back in Australia), you can get a cheap pair made quickly in Thailand :)

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

And if Pushka is good at golf? She would still be entitled to her opinion that golf is boring. You state your opinion as a fact that everyone should agree with.

I didn't think being good at golf was the qualifying criterion. Let me check...

The only people who think golf is boring are those that have no idea how to play the game.

Yes, the only requirement was to know how to play the game. No need to be good at the game to form an opinion

Facebook has this day in history, nothing important for 2 September in my life time; according to Facebook anyway.

Although 70 years ago was the official end of World War 2.

On 15 August 1945, Japan surrendered, with the surrender documents finally signed aboard the deck of the American battleship USS Missouri on 2 September 1945, ending the war 2, more from wiki.

Still if you believe QI WW2 ended in 1990.

Although actual hostilities came to an end in September 1945, the Cold War got in the way of a formal legal settlement. The Paris Peace Treaties of 1947 wrapped up the wars between the allied powers and their non-German European enemies (Italy, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Finland); in 1952, the Allies (except the USSR) signed the Treaty of San Francisco with Japan, and, in 1955, Austria was restored to sovereignty. Germany, however, remained divided—first between the Western powers and the USSR, then (until 1990) into two sovereign Germanies. So the first celebration of German reunification (although see comments elsewhere on this board as to whether that is the right word), on 3rd October 1990, marks the official end to World War II.

Tax in Australia is outrageous, and looking at clowns in Canberra (on both sides), it's just going to get worse...

Whether you liked Kerry Packer or not, any rational capitalist living in this country has to agree with his position on taxation.

While it's not too much better over here, there are certain...... "benefits" that can be exploited depending on how you work, although from April next year that's taking a small hit too.

Yeah, if you live in the Channel Islands, it is quite a bit better :p

I'll be working until I am 100 or die, whichever is sooner...

Why stop working at 100 penegal. With the troubled stock markets we might need you to work on to save us all.

Has anyone had any experience with getting a drink machine for their Place Of Employment?

LOL... We shouldn't joke cove, people are working longer and longer.

FWIW, I actually enjoy working, just wish I got paid more and taxed less for the privilege.

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

Totally off topic - who are you Victorianites swapping your electricity accounts to and at what discounted rates pls? Simply Energy are offering -37% for Elec and -22% for Gas with no contract but they want businesses to lock in for 24mths for those rates - anybody changed horses recently?

It doesn't have to be that way.

My parents retired around 50 years of age. They have had a comfortable lifestyle and have not missed out on anything.

I had plans to retire at 50. New plan is to retire at 55 but could be longer. I can retire now but that means the travel game is over. Trying to convince myself retirement is the way go and stuff status and flying around everywhere.

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

Me too, I have a black belt in shopping and an Honours Degree from Premium Outlets ;)

I like this too, my OH tells me I could win a medal for shopping, once in the USA we had to go back to the hotel so he could bandage my feet before we set off again !

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

Our work social group runs a machine and they charge $1 for sodas. Has worked great for the staff. One repair needed in a decade and we provide the power.
I am 65 and it is 3500 night time sleeps to make it to 75.

blasphemy on this forum :)

I love flying, and make many life choices that help that, but some days I just hate it. Years ago I learnt the short-haul decorum of not reclining. That has progressed to not even bothering to ask for a coffee. (seriously, on a sub-hour flight is that necessary?). But the day I retire I want to be able to fly. Just that I want it to be for pure enjoyment. I admire the retired people on this forum who have managed to get there. :)

Re: Who says share markets ALWAYS make money over long time periods?

Shame. Have been waiting for June 2016 reward seats to open up for Jetstar Honolulu - Sydney, which happened sometime during this morning. No J (jetstar J, anyway) classic awards available. But one available 3 days later. Seems I will have to stay back in Honolulu 3 nights after MrP departs. Life is so unfair sometimes.....;)

. Plans have changed. MrP back from NZ and I updated him on the flights. Sweetly he insists he wants to only fly back together. I have switched his flight to mine and even got us sitting together.

I have advised I will have unfettered access to shopping the two days before we leave. Fine with him - he will go to the North Shore - Waikiki - anywhere but the shops.

So will now be spending more nights on Hawaii Island (Kona - volcano - snorkelling with Mantas).

So Alaska and Hawaii combo. An eclectic mix along with a single engine plane flight to the summit of Denali!

Sounds like a win/win compromise!
