Flights between Australia and Hawaii struggling

I was really hoping to get to Hawaii this year as has been many many years since I have been there. But unfortunately it was the cost of accommodation that put me off. $200-300 pn just for 3 star! I am single and would have been travelling along so would have to pay the lot myself. And of course the very low exchange rate atm. Have always wanted to stay somewhere like Hawaiian Hilton Village - but that would be out of the question!
