i've been searching different insurance sites trying to find a reasonable price for travel insurance cover on pre-existing medical condition.
Back in 2010 had a triple bypass from which all has been great, no ongoing issues and last saw my specialist Oct/Nov 2014 for routine 6monthly check up and he says "see you when you turn 60 in 4yrs time".
Any advice or direction to particular insurance group/s is appreciated, we leave in a month to go on our first ever overseas trip for about 18 days to Dubai then NY.

I think it's pretty unlikely you'll get coverage for heart conditions given that you have had heart surgery in the past. It doesn't mean the whole policy is invalid - you can still get travel insurance for lost luggage or if you break a leg. But anything to do with your heart you're going to be on your own :(

I had 5xBypass in 2000, and have had cover for pre existing conditions in 2012, 2013 and 2015 ( been back 1 week). Try Covermore or COTA. You will pay additional premium. If I get to the stage where I can't get cover, I won't go!

Covermore were great covering me for my broken/dislocated ankle and mrsa 6 months after I did it. I also went to US. Had only actually started walking again about a month before I left.

Just had to pay a bit more for the premium but was a lot cheaper than other insurers wanted

Have you tried this section of the site-there has been some good discussion of pre-existing conditions previously?

I have done some research about insurance for my pre-existing condition(s) and have only found one company which will cover me. Insureandgo quoted $1200 for 13 days in Hong Kong for a couple (my +1 only needed cover for mild asthma) or $2400 for annual insurance with trips of 30 days or less. Seems hefty but otherwise I can't go anywhere outside Australia.

I went with BUPA which was underwritten by CGU recently. I havent left yet on it but they are covering me for preexisting medical condition similar to yours. While i havent had any surgery they are covering me.
I did a lot of research recently as well to find the right cover.
With Covermore, OneCover, Bupa they have online checkers where you can fill in your details to get the quote and they will ask you some questions about your preexisting medical condition and then if its simple enough tell you if they will cover it or not.
Some of the insurers you have to fill in forms and wait for them to get back to you but Bupa and covermore have it online so its faster. Or just cal them up and they will do the questions over the phone and give you an answer.

To follow up on my previous post, I have now purchased travel insurance from Insureandgo for our proposed trip to Singapore, Hong Kong and China. I tried the following companies and was declined.

Fortunately, Insureandgo covered me for all my pre-existing conditions (mostly heart related). I found a 10% discount code so was able to reduce the cost of 14 days cover from $1200 to $1080.
Now to book the flights and hotels.
Yay!

Thanks sinophile888 - i think i have checked most of the insurance and also found the majority of them do not cover me either because i have a heart condition. what i find silly with most is that there appears to be NO Scope what soever to indicate exactly how long ago you situation arose and or what your current medical status is because they have stock standard blunt questions and answer choices. As in my case 5 yrs ago my bypass operation was saw the specialist 6mthly until last October '14 and now dont see him for 4yrs but none of this is considered. i did find one being Covermore i think it was that would insure me for approx $460 for my 16 day trip but i've got a couple more companies to check tonight and then decide which one to take. Thanks again for your reply sinophile888 and enjoy your trip
