Arriving midday 24 august to jfk. One adult 2 teenagers. Never been there before. HOT weather. Shared transportation or private to times square costs up to 180aud. What are thoughts on private v shared v taxi (lining up) etc. My personal experience with shared is that you can spend a lot of time waiting around for the bus to fill.
Any comments?
Thanks

The simplest way is by taxi.It is a flat rate.Last year $US52,50 but add tolls + tip.So usually ~ $65.
Remember it is the USA so going by a limo service or shuttle and presumably Uber you need to tip.
Cheapest way is by train.
Do not believe anyone in the terminal who offers you a taxi.Go to the Taxi rank.Never have had to wait so for us it is the most convenient.
And in NYC Uber is not always cheaper-

I avoided about a 45 min taxi queue using uber at jfk. Jfk to midtown usd65 all inclusive. No tip req. Its a flat rate btwn JFK and manhattan for uber x. Very happy.

Another vote for the regular cab flat rate. 1 adult and 2 teens with luggage would fit under the fate rate rule.

Get a town car much cleaner, nicer. No line-up to wait.
I can PM you the details of an excellent driver (Honda Pilot SUV). Otherwise I recommend Dial7 online if you don't want to wait for a taxi.

I always pre-arrange transport at JFK/LGA.

I use Dial 7 and arrange a car.

Have also used the good old SuperShuttle and never had to wait more than 10 mins. Fortunately the times I have used it I have been dropped off first as I stay on the UES.

With 3 people you're 1/3 of the van too. Price would come in on par with a taxi I suspect.

Thanks princess fiona that would b great. I'm always concerned the pic on the net is not the actual car you get.
Is dial 9 a phone at the airport youuse to book cars. It's that what u mean?

Cab it. Flat rate anywhere in Manhattan. Never had to wait long.

I'll send you the info for my driver.
Dial7 is a online booking service for private driver. Can book online and then call up once you have arrived. Driver picks you up at Limo pick up.

Thanks for your pm. I can't seem to reply on my mobile but can read it. Just wondering how much you tipped. Shall i say who recommended and is it worth asking for some kind of city tour on v Wai there. We will have come from buffalo so not a long flight.
Pm is fine. Thanks for sending info.

I am also interested in this information if you wouldn't mind sending me the driver details you have? I will be arriving (also from Buffalo) into JFK on August 12th. Thanks so much.

I googled Dial7 out of curiosity but the reviews were very, very mixed. I would still have booked it based on your experience but I wouldn't be able to not be a little apprehensive based on what I read online :O

I'd take the train.

I would too, travelling by myself or with someone else. However, for a group of three people who've never been to NYC before, I'd recommend taxi or town-car at the very least to get from the airport. To the airport, I am sure they can decide which is best after being in NYC for a few days.

Yep airtrain to Jamaica then LIRR to Penn for about $12 total

That's $12 per person using airtrain+LIRR, or $7.75 per person if using airtrain plus subway ( E train from Jamaica or A train from Howard Beach). E train can be quicker than LIRR for stays in midtown ( north of Penn station), and A train quicker than LIRR for stays downtown.

Will be in New York end of the month. Will take a taxi but need to get to East Village. First time to NYC what are the peak hours for traffic? Similar to Sydney.

Cheers

Mat
