Awesome AFF - I downloaded the AFF Guide recently and have already saved money by avoiding Qantas's credit card fee by purchasing $50 gift vouchers first and redeeming them.

Couple of tricks I noticed - you have to redeem the vouchers before starting to search and book your flights. Vouchers can't be used as part of the normal payment process.

Also I got confused and only purchased one gift voucher, so I had to go back and purchase a second to be able to book my wife. It means that we have two separate bookings, although Qantas have promised they're now linked 'behind the scenes'. So when booking using this technique, make sure you purchase as many vouchers as people flying.

Thanks again,

David

Many more tricks to learn around this place, welcome.

Welcome,

My first voucher experience two days ago was pathetic..... their methodology is so abnormal

I agree that they could implement vouchers better, but as long as you read the instructions / T&C first it's not actually difficult to make them work. And saving the CC fee is worth a little pain.

I have been using vouchers ever since I learnt the trick about a year ago. Mostly without issues. It's been a nice little saver. :)

You can purchase flight for two pax on the one voucher. Just select the number of pax when you redeem it.

Hi davsun55 and good to see you posting. The gift voucher trick is awesome and one I've told many people.

For swanning_it the answer is no, they only work for Qantas.

Actually this is incorrect - you have to specify the number of pax when you purchase the voucher.

If JQ flights appear in the flight search on QF website then the answer is yes.

I tend to find that when searching for flights with a voucher JQ options don't appear.

If JQ flights appear in the flight search on QF website then the answer is yes.

I'm really only interested in one JQ flight....OOL to CNS and the QF price is $69 dearer than the JQ price with the max bundle, so the CC fee is not the QF killer on that one. I was wistfully hoping that there may be a way to use it directly with JQ as the JQ vouchers seem to be somewhat of a waste of time.

Jetstar have their own vouchers. I bought some recently. I called citibank and asked them if I paid for the ticket using jetstar vouchers, would I still be covered for the travel insurance under the card. They said yes, as long as I paid for the entire amount with the vouchers, meaning I couldn't top up the voucher amount with my own cash, however once you pay for the luggage, you cover the total amount, if that makes sense. I got the vouchers right away by email after paying for them.
