This evening, with 15mins to kill waiting for my driver, I had a wander around the MEL International Terminal which - at 8:15 -was a hive of activity.

Initially struck by the number of QF code shares (on CZ, FJ etc) and looking at the signage it struck me that the carrier had priority check-in signage for their own elites, but not QF.

Which begs the questions:

- As a QF elite travelling on a code share flight, do I get priority check-in?

- Is there an accepted standard for this?

Regards,

BD

What do you mean by Elite?
If the flight is codeshare and you book it with a QF number you will get the same rights with check in etc.
If you have booked it without the QF flight number, then you are pretty much at the mercy of whatever status you have with the airline, unless it is OW or EK.

That's precisely my question - and you've provided the answer - thanks!

So, as a QF WP travelling Y on CZ but QF flight number, I can check-in at the CZ Business Counter despite a lack of signage. Thanks!!

Yes, you can... But please don't travel Y on CZ... Try J or PE.
If you get an old plane, it's pretty brutal.

I travel frequently in Y internationally, but on the Chinese airlines only PE or J.

Noted....this is a hypothetical for me. The vast majority of my travel is domestic milk-runs!!

Despite the fact most airlines don't officially offer this I've never been turned away by just joining the business class checkin/boarding queues when booked on the codeshare and handing over the appropriate coloured QF FF card along with my passport with an appropriately DYKWIA look on my face.

The lack of reciprocal lounge access on non-alliance code share partners is a bigger issue though. Have yet to convince 9W that they should cough up a lounge invite card at BOM despite repeated pleas.

I'm guessing you mean when travelling Y/Y+ on QF code-share and looking to enter Lounge via QF status? Surely it wouldn't be a problem accessing the Lounge if travelling J on QF code-share?

Correct. As with the question about priority checkin etc this would be extended to higher cabin passengers regardless.
