With a family award booking LHR back to Aus in Jan 2016 we have just been notified (text from QF mail below) that as of 1 May there has a been a removal of the Air Passanger Duty from UK departures. Refund on the way apparently and a lovely $ bonus to the family holiday. Great news and a reminder Christmas is on the way.

"A decision has been made recently by the British Government to remove the Air Passenger Duty (APD) for children travelling on flights departing from the United Kingdom.
From 1 May 2015 children between the ages of 2 and 11 inclusive, travelling in the Economy cabin, are exempt from the tax."

This was in the news a while back. Glad QF have been proactive in getting you your refund. :)
