HKG new lounge open

I just witnessed something disturbing while sitting in the lounge.

A woman approached the person sitting next to me and asked the guy a favour to give her his boarding pass so she can guest her cousin into lounge and will bring his boarding pass straight back. He hesitated and then she said if you don't feel comfortable then it's not a problem. He said he wasn't comfortable and she thanked him and walked away.

All I can say is wow. One thing to ask a person to help with lounge access. Another to solicit a boarding pass.

No need for the shrillness. It's perfectly reasonable to expect better after many years whereby now QF closes F lounges at outports and devalues the offering to WPs without any attempt to offset the reductions ro standards.

WP should get access to the shoe shine and ironing service.

I am assuming we cam in the servants entrance, next to passport control down a side passage way

Given the number of staff I know, anyone who try to ask me for it would most likely find herself banned... until at the very least most of the lounge staff (eventually, one day) find new jobs.

Yes, it's always horses for courses. There's nothing quite like being able access a lounge and then having the option of deciding whether or not you will use that benefit.

if only they could shine my thongs! ;)

ps i thought those were only for people in First or WP1s? I never asked when I was a WP but the impression I had was WPs were treated as no better than NB in HKG and SIN lounges...

No need, just pop over to the CX Wing F. They do a great job pressing my shirts.
I know you are referring to a specific feature but yesterday was first time in a long time I had no desire to visit any CX lounge after visiting QF lounge first.

Qantas lounge was more than adequate. Had some sort of octopus and cucumber salad which I had 2 large serves. The Pure Blonde on the way out topped it off.

You're very easily pleased JohnK ;) those 2 things you could probably find at a domestic QC..

They're not called WP for nothing. :) I figure since they're (or their work) are paying as much as they are, they're probably entitled to be a little precious. :)

On the topic of the HKG lounge, I flew QF128 out of there in J in Jan 2015 and put together some footage.

Great Video, Thanks for sharing!

I will be heading to Honkers for the very first time next month on QF out of MEL & particularly looking forward to the new lounge experience QF has to offer in Honkers on the return leg.

Not travelling on a 747 unfortunately, but crossing my fingers for a refurbished a A330 on at least one sector;)

The first plate was OK.

But the second plate was even better

I'd love to see that type of food in a domestic lounge.

P.S. The peanuts tasted like they were curried peanuts. My fingers had a yellow stain that was hard to remove with napkin. Not a great idea.

I called in for a quick Bloody Mary this afternoon and was surprised that the barman knew my name.
It turned out that the receptionist had snuck down and whispered it in his ear while I waited.
A nice touch I thought.

Re: Thank you Red Roo

It's off-topic I know but related to some earlier comments - I've never been in the renovated QF lounge in HKG as I've always assumed that the CX The Wing 1st class lounge would be better?

Rarely travelling F usually J (ex MEL we don't get that option sadly on the directs)....

Am I mis-informed?

Cheers

I was there myself last year and I preferred the Qantas lounge. Was barely anyone in there and the food was pretty good. The First Wing seemed a bit dark and claustrophobic where the Q Lounge was open and had a nice view of the tarmac. Having said that, I am allergic to eggs so a bit restricted in terms of what I can order from the restaurants YMMV.

Not misinformed! The two lounges are quite different products however.

The CX F lounge is a true F facitlity... a la carte dining, champagne bar, cabanas, waiter service. It is a bit 'darker' than than the QF lounge, but still has sweeping views of the passenger concourses and tarmac.

The QF lounge is the winner in terms of design - it looks great... and has a bar. But it is an economy/business class facility, and has to cater for those numbers accordingly. It's not going to win awards for big bowls of low-cost carbs at the buffet.
