It depends which airline you wish to collect points for. Eg the AMEX Velocity Red is a free card and earns 1 point per dollar.

In the meantime, best to ask any more questions in a thread on the subject. Have a good look at how the 'Discussion Board' above is organised.

Would you, in your personal opinion, say that CBA's Platinum Awards card for QF points is a okay? I don't really have a point of reference for what's good value for QF points.

From what I can find, the earn rate (once converted from CBA points to QF points) is 1.25 pts/$ on the Amex and 0.5 pts/$ on the MasterCard for a $249 annual fee + $10 annual Qantas fee. Currently a 90 days double points promotion for new cards.

Without looking too much further into the details, I'd say it's not quite the best if you're aiming for QF points: for comparison, NAB's Qantas Rewards Premium card gives 1.5 pts/$ Amex, 0.5 pts/$ Visa, $250 annual fee and a 40,000 pt signup bonus (which assuming you spend less than $10,000 per month on your Amex, is a better deal than CBA's double points).

There's plenty of info on the net about this, e.g. The best of black: the top frequent flyer credit cards - Australian Business Traveller - as has been mentioned you might want to start a new thread if you have more questions :)
