The WP shadow

Row 4 is always a challenge for me. Do I want legroom or do I prefer to have my bag at my feet and the IFE running gate to gate?
At row 4 you can have legroom and your bag at your feet. Re IFE unless you're travelling on a Jetconnect flight you're not guaranteed your particular B738 will have personal IFE anyway so it's not so much a factor for me.

You can ring up and get non status pax allocated a seat next to or near you. Assuming you want them nearer you ;)

I've tried to do that in the past and been refused, even when I was the travel arranger.
Maybe I should have hung up and and called again!

No room to store luggage at your feet for aisle seats but there is usually enough storage space above rows 1-5.
The only disadvantage I found in rows 1 & 4 is not being able to use IFE gate-to-gate. It does make it harder to finish watching some movies but it's really one of those 1st world problems...

I Cheerfully Stand Corrected and will now start looking for availability at the earlier time now :) :) :) Thank you

No guarantee of course. I've logged in at T-80 and had no luck but seen it open a little while later, then close and open again. Or 4A opens but not the rest of the (unoccupied) row. Its a bit of a mystery.

Indeed, but not usually a problem for me as I always select 4A or F. :D

You get IFE?? Last month I had 16 flights (out of 16) with overhead screens...

Consequently I watched Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in 'Blended' 16 times...

I.now.hate.that.movie.

NB. I work on planes and listen in the background, but I can now sing the theme song by heart.

Anyone know why sometimes row 4 still remains blocked (to a Gold member) well past the T-80 point? Is it because there is a large number of Plats and above on that particular flight?

Pretty much that would be the case.

At T-23h 58m I was able to move from 5C to 4D with 4E vacant. At the same time the Bronze was able to move from 6D to 5C but not to 4E.

A few minutes later I called Qantas and the Bronze is now in 4E and Bronze is happy.

I may get a shadow on Sunday as the Bronze is flying Virgin. ;)

I get annoyed when I book J as WP and can't preselected row 1, even though it is entirely empty.

Maybe the other guys want my money more, never an issue getting row 1 over there...

Whilst this is an older post I nonetheless thought I'd provide an update on the "Row 4" shadowing from a WP1 experience. As background,I generally select 4C or 4D outside T-80 (available to WP1) and predominately fly the BNE-SYD-MEL routes. What I have been finding for most of this year, at least, is that whilst most of the flights are reasonably lightly loaded, there are many vacant B and E seats behind Row 4, however more often than not, Row 4 is fully occupied. I suspect what is happening is that QF believe that there is already one benefit provided (leg room) by sitting in Row 4 therefore they are less inclined to provide the additional benefit of shadowing, and that any shadowing policy commences in Row 5 and beyond. Whilst using Expertflyer (using an NB profile), I can confirm with an earlier post that the seat block/shadowing beside me (WP1 Row 4C/D) is consistently removed with T-1. So WP's, take some comfort knowing that the lack of shadowing in Row 4 appears to be equally applied to WP1's.

I would agree with this post and that has also been my findings in (at a guess) the last 12 months or so.

It appears that I have lost my shadow recently. And it's always a Bronze.

I haven't taken notice of the passenger manifest for a long time. Saw one yesterday. The printing order is PCV. I was surprised my name was 8th on the list. Not a full flight with lots of middle seats vacant. And if I am not mistaken only 2 people in business class were above me in PCV which is really surprising. BNE-SYD flight at 6:25pm Friday night.

And what were you expecting it to be?

Much lower as I only purchase cheap airfares.

A lot of personal opinions regarding PCV on AFF are way off the mark.
I wonder what my would be. Given the excessive Jetstar (Asia) flights I take, the bundles are classified as economy rather than discount economy. But in the grand scheme of things (from the bean counters' side), I guess someone flying Jetstar with a bundle can be worth more than a deeply discounted Qantas Y pax.

I agree aswell, as I have a shadow about 80-90% of my flights

Same here, no complaints about that.
Sometimes I lose my shadow while the row next to me keep theirs and vv. Been wondering how they choose which middle seat to allocate first when both 4B & 4E are vacant. I was never quite sure if the agent actually checks the status of pax sitting in both ends or just randomly selects the seat.
