Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Thanks Dumdidum.

But I can't find this promotion anywhere on Westpac's website. Does anyone have the link?

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

The link on OZBARGIN's webpage does not mention the fee waiver anywhere.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

I can confirm. Signed up in Melbourne branch. The advisor said was in store only and they had an internal memo about it last Monday. Apparently it's to help drive usage in branch of a new online credit card application form and process

Yes not advertised online on Westpac site. Only in-branch or over the phone (depending on the operator's knowledge)

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

In regards to the QF spend, is it sufficient to book a oneworld award using QFF points and the westpac card to pay for the taxes?

Based on a similar card that I've used in the past and the merchant that the taxes get charged to (Qantas), I would say yes, it would be regarded as QF spend.

I went to the branch last week and collected the cards. Can anyone confirm that the welcome letter is posted separately. The bank employee scrunched up the letter with my cards on it and said there wasn't any use for it before handing me the black envelope with the details inside.

I applied over the phone and they asked me whether I wanted the Welcome Pack emailed or posted - I opted for post. If they didn't ask and you didn't explicitly request for the pack to be emailed, I would expect they would post it to you.

Great, thanks mick - will wait for the points and welcome letter to show up :)

I went to my local branch where the "personal banker" who seemed to know very little about the cards told me that there was no fee waiver for the Black card, only the low cost (no rewards) card.

When I returned home, I went to the Westpac website and enquired via the on-line chat. I stated that I had read on Oz Bargain that the fee was waived in the first year; "Is that correct?"

"Yes 100%. You can apply at the branch or by phone on 1300651089". So I rang and did the application and got approved. The agent on the phone did ask if I had a promotion code (presumably for the fee waiver) so I told him it had been confirmed on the on-line chat and read him their response.

"Oh OK. Which branch do you want to collect your cards from, etc., etc.".

Thanks to all on this thread; another 60K points coming and no fee. Goodbye Wollies EDR.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

How long is Westpac taking to credit the 60,000 bonus points with these cards? I've gone through a couple of statement cycles already without seeing the bonus points.

Just to update you... I went to collect my cards today from the branch and they were inside a large black envelope with glossy brochure, which I got to keep - I assume it was the Welcome Pack. It had pretty much the same info that was at Altitude Black and so I don't think you're missing much.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Does anyone know whether you can change points earn to Altitude points, after getting the Black card with the 60K Qantas point bonus? Thank you

Yep. Signed up with QFF for 60,000 then changed to.altitude for Vff after a few days. Operator confirmed up to 10 days to change and no change of cards....3 months for bonus points.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

I went into a branch yesterday and was told that I must have been mistaken, "Westpac do not offer their premium product fee free unless you have a home loan with us". So I walked out and applied through the call centre, 15 mins later I was approved! Thanks to all the posters and their comments for their guidance/advice!

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Received my cards in the mail yesterday.
The envelope was large, black and marked westpac & altitude black.
You could feel the cards through the front of the envelope.

Not exactly discreet, a bit disappointing from a security perspective, but at least they arrived safely.

Incidentally mine is now fee free because I do have a home loan with them, but the package is under the wife's name and she has had her free altitude black for a couple of years. Was previously told in the past that I wouldn't be eligible as they'll only give out 1 free one per package holder.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

Anyone received the points yet? Seems in the T&C it states you need to pay the annual fee to be eligible for the pts even though the bank officer confirmed otherwise.

T&Cs pt 15 states:

 • Special promotion - 60,000 bonus Altitude or Qantas Points: The bonus points depends on your choice of Rewards Program. Eligible purchase does not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account. Switches, upgrades, customers accessing employee benefits or packaged cards are ineligible. In order to be eligible customers must have been charged the standard annual fee. This promotion only applies to one account in the customer’s name and is not available in conjunction with any other promotion other than the balance transfer promotion available at card application and special promotional rate of 0%p.a. on purchases for 6 months. The bonus points will be added to your points balance (Altitude Rewards or Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account) within three months after the first purchase transaction is debited to your account. The earning and redemption of Altitude Points and Qantas Points is subject to the Altitude Rewards Terms and Conditions and Altitude Qantas Terms and Conditions. You do not receive points if your card account is in arrears for 2 consecutive statement cycles and in other circumstances. You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn and redeem Qantas Points in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

Re: Westpac Reward Cards First Year Annual Fee Waived & up to 60,000 Bonus Points

was told that it'll take a few months (they didn't specify how many) person on the line said that that was due to a number of people signing up, collecting points and closing the account in less than a week which ruined it for everyone.

Thanks mick -I actually got the black envelope already with my cards. I was waiting for the welcome letter, which has actually arrived now, so all good :)

But your 60k will still go into QFF?

That's exactly what I was wondering here, I wouldn't be counting on it and would wait for the QFF points posting personally!

Think i'll do the same

Will earn some extra QF points whilst I wait which i'm sure can be put to use

Operator confirmed the 60K bonus and accrued points to the date if change will credit to.QFF. Will wait and see. Not much downside though 60K altitude points is still good value. Although I will fight for the QFF if needs be.
