I thought I saw something about a website for retrospectively checking available airfares on a given day (in the past). Possibly in the big downgrade from business thread. I've scanned 900 out of the 1400 posts and didn't see such a web link.

Is there such a website? Or did I imagine it?

Maybe it was in the involuntry downgrade thread where people were trying to compare various airfares?

My niece had her PhD awarded today. She is 29, has had two children, moved from ADL to Perth (no family support and had her two babies there) for her husbands work 2 years ago and back to ADL last year, battled Lupus herself and back injury needing surgery plus life threatening illness in her first born. She rocks!

At the time it just was something that needed to be done. Just worked her way through it. Didn't think about it. But in hindsight it blew me away.

Now she thinks she needs to do her Masters if she wants to be a registered Psychologist. She didn't stand a chance of avoiding this. Her grandfather and grandmother are both psychs but not on my side. On my side, well, there's me with a Psych research degree and MrP a registered Psych (but he's not related to her). His niece however - yep, registered Psych.

Lack of Private health insurance?

You might be already aware, but private health cover only covers hospital treatments and not outpatient tests nor specialist consultations. It's a common misconception that people have about specialist appointments.

Out patient, not even at a hospital. Orthodontist, perhaps not considered a true specialist. I'll have to check my sleep specialist but he wants my PHI details for some reason. The obstetrician got a slice of the pie, but I guess that could be a billing thing. Neurologist (?), but that was a loooonng time ago.

In any case, people go to public hospital clinics instead of private specialist appointments because they can't afford the private specialist.

I was fascinated years ago when I found out that you could get a PhD without getting the Masters first. Well done to your niece for all the effort. Given her insight into personal struggles, I think she will make a great registered Psychologist.

Depends on the uni and their model. I had to get my honors degree to do my PhD but now it's a masters instead.

When I was looking to do a PhD, the best way was to start Masters, then upgrade the issue/ topic then change it to a PhD being sought.

However I found that employment paid better, and that was that .

Like I said. I'd have to check the details. But this is coverage with those people that is entire disconnected from any hospital. Direct with them at their private practice. Not sure if that's considered outpatient or not.

Either way it doesn't change the situation that not everyone can afford a private specialist. Hence why public clinics exist and are used.
