As the email says $1000 directly in foreign currency I seriously doubt loading $1000 AUD will qualify

From the T&C's

^To be eligible to receive 3,000 bonus Qantas Points you must be the recipient of this email, register by clicking the button or header image in the body of the email and load a minimum of AU $1,000 equivalent directly in foreign currency in one transaction on your Qantas Cash facility by 31 March 2015. The bonus points will be credited to your account 6-8 weeks after the offer has closed. Limit one bonus points offer per person

Don't think you can put in any currency apart from Aud$ first, then convert to foreign currency within QCC.

No you can load directly in a foreign currency. You basically put a "buy" order in and it tells you how much to pay in AUD. If you load first in AUD you would not get the bonus points.

Got this too, not biting. In my situation there is a 0.05 - 0.06c canadian dollar penalty (using Qantas Cash) versus market rates (using citibank to withdraw dollars). Comes to buying at 1.6c/point...not enough incentive

I took them up on this offer last year, not going to do it this time around, it's not worth it.

To qualify, you need to do the following:
1. Log into your Qantas Cash Account
2. Click "Load Funds"
3. Select your preferred foreign currency
4. Enter an amount that is equal to $1000AUD
5. Hit "Load Now"
6. The system will provide you and email you loading instructions.
7. Wait 1 business day for your currency to appear in your account.

Easy :)

Yes got the email also but not even tempted - but my offers on it keep going up

I'm surprised this thread is still going and you haven't all just gone out and got a Citibank Plus account for free with free FX cash withdrawal internationally.

This QF card has predatory FX rates - that's how they're making money off it.

Yes, I got the Citibank Plus card and upon some reflection will not be taking this offer up.

But they are not comparable products. How do you lock in FX rates with the Citibank card?

Some of us, are not eligible for a "true" credit card, my honoured colleague.
Either that we don't earn our keep in real cold hard cash, or that we don't earn more than Aud$35k/Aud$45k, (usually min Aud$15k annual income credit cards don't earn points), or that some of us just don't want to even dice with the chance of the banks/credit card companies pushing us to bankruptcy...
The QCC does have its downsides, and the VGW is a tad better, but still, considering that a bank will not issue a credit to some nutter who thinks he's a pooch/dog... the QCC/VGW suits me to a (er) t.

Yep, this is the card for those ineligible to get a credit card and should only ever be used for AUD. There is a market for it after all.
The minute you do FX with this card you have paid through the nose for those few points.

I just talked to a Qantas rep and was told that a simple load of A$1000 is sufficient to become eligible for the 3,000 QFF points. I was told no currency transfer is needed. I'd still check that though, as I've been burnt before.

I guess you can always spend that grand in Australia, too.

Edit: Don't forget to register before loading the amount. ;)
This is good news but I would like to have something in writing from Qantas .
I had a similar offer last year & the points did post but the wording was slightly different , it said
"load at least AU $250 or equivalent in foreign currency in a single transaction" .
In this offer the " or " is missing so I don't think we'll get the points .

The offer is specific - you need to load Foreign Currency; an equivalent of AUD1000 in one hit.

.. load a minimum of AU $1,000 equivalent directly in foreign currency in one transaction ...

Currently AU$1000 will credit US$745.40 or €670.40. XE.com mid market rates are US$77.24 and €71.15 respectively.

Given the QCash arbitrage is generally around 4% those 3k points are gunna cost at least $40 ... of course spending OS will earn another 1k.

If they were VA points I'd be saying "where do i join up!"

It is ok if you use QCash overseas anyway.

Re QCC forex rates, aye, that's where it bites.
Bankwest debit only one that earns QF FF points.
All other debit cards no points earnt, not even Citibank card as mentioned above.
Minimum income/deposit for Bankwest of Aud$2k monthly is ok for most but not me.
Can't pay fir stuff with love or kibble.
Summing up: Ok, QCC love it lots. Has downsides though.
VGW great card but the lounge as reward not as good as QPd or QF business lounge int.

Talking of exchange rate fluctuations, last time this promo ran I loaded exactly $1000 (into a USD account) and didn't get the points. When I queried why they stated I did not load $1000 equivalent (and did the calculation based on time of the money arriving in the account). I was able to disprove this with a bank statement but my story is to note that there seems to have been a slight fluctuation between me initiating the load and it actually getting there which meant I wasn't credited.

I did eventually get the points after arguing but if I was doing again would probably put in slightly over $1K to prevent this reoccurring.
