SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

It was going to be 2 x 16GB WiFi minis - but not one to be had in any of the 3 terminals at Changi - will have to keep the $'s on ice til next month.

As for Cruiserette's gifts this trip - try this on and tell me if she is one spoilt wife or is she one spoilt wife? Her gifts:
- 1 x Spinner cabin bag with matching computer bag
- 80 x Apple lightning cables with LEDs running through entire cable
- 20 x fake Swarovski bracelets
- 10 x fake Chanel bracelets
- 12 x fake Michael Kors bracelets
- 4 x selfie sticks
Now seriously - what more could a girl ask for?

Back on topic of Changi $s - indeed usage is exactly as I stated earlier - ATP vouchers only for alcohol tobacco or perfume / cosmetics - ANY for any other outlet in Changi - ANY can be added to ATP but ATP cannot be added to ANY - clear?

Now was told by girls at voucher dispensary that current Changi $ promo will DEFINITELY end Mar 31 - it will be replaced by a new promo which they claim they do not know what it is as yet - but Changi $s post Mar 31 no value - spend 'em kids.

Talk about spoilt! It's rare I get something for my other half while OS, days are very long and there isn't any western shops near where I stay.

And of course.. who can't be bothered'd shopping in the airport!?! :D

Suffered a severe case of 'Aviation Alienation' again - SQ831 PVG-SIN yesterday - I was only pax in F - this time looked after like an 'Abandoned Kitten'!

For those of you with Citibank cards, does paying SQ taxes etc come up as overseas merchant thus earning the 4pts/$ (flight originating from AU)?

I paid for my friends taxes and was charged forex but not sure if I got the extra points as my statement hadn't posted yet.

You paid forex on an Australian CC for a flight originating from Oz?

My understanding is that all flts originating from Australia must be paid in A$s - that is clearly spelt out on SQ web site is it not?

Hmm odd... last time I booked out of AUS it was in AUD, but wasn't with Citi. Might just pay with Amex to be safe and guarantee 2pts/$.

I paid for SQ award booking taxes and infant ticket ex-SYD and was charged in SGD...
I am totally surprised - my understanding is that ALL tix originating from Australia - either commercial or rdpt tix - must be paid in A$s - indeed all SQ tix are supposedly paid in currency of originating / ticketing country wherever they are purchased.

I just did test on rdpt booking ex MEL - when you get to pmt page you can click the Currency Conversion tab but it clearly states tix must be paid in A$:

Are you guys 100% sure you paid in foreign currency on Australian issued CCs? Please don't think I am doubting you its just that is info is totally opposite to my understanding of SQs ops for last 15yrs. Now I must add for last I have always used KF Plat AMEX to pay for flts ex Oz at 3pts/$1 earn and Select lady 6yrs at 3.33pts/$1 being inter pmts.

SQ, like the vast majority of other airlines, will charge the fare (and any taxes / surcharges) in the currency of the point of origin... This has been the case for as long as I remember.

The one exception is some manually written tickets as they are created ex-SIN... This is absolutely not the norm.

AUD $553.67 seems a bit steep? Have KF co-payments always been that high?
What it is from say SYD to LAX/JFK? or LHR? (in F of course ;))

I've joined KF but haven't transferred any Citibank points yet - will be doing it soon.

FWIW an AAward from SYD-SIN-HKG on BA F/CX J had a co-payment of US $236.20 + phone booking fee $35.

Not bad for LHR considering a QF F classic SYD-LHR has a co-payment of $623.42.
Last year I paid a total of $1378.72 for co-payment and upfaring a JASA to FASA SYD-MEL-LHR... but that was ASA..

All of my AAward bookings originating outside of the US (Oz, LHR, SIN) have had the co-payment charged in USD..
