Hi fellow AFFer's,

Have been reading for days but found lots of conflicting information.

Is it possible to add a stopover (by calling of course and paying the $100 stopover fee) to a Saver Award fare?

The website says no, but other forum members have said yes...

Who is right?

Thanks in advance!

As posted in the other thread.

I changed a Business Saver NGO-SIN-SYD to an NGO-xSIN-ADL the other week
for $20 operator fee, $100 stopover fee and about $40 in changed taxes

So I called the KF call centre in Sydney this morning to add a stopover to my award booking.

Have the SQ site open on my computer and the results of a search for availability open right in front of me. The website shows Saver availability but Standard is waitlist.

KF call centre operator says that stopover is possible... but there is no availability on the day I would like.....

I ask her to check again as the website says there is availability but she tells me its a no go. Apparently there is only revenue availability but no award space.

Are phantom results a common occurrence on the SQ site? (Perhaps just a glitch on the site)....

I am going to call again this afternoon and try a different operator.... but has anybody else experienced the same thing?

Would think it would be very weird for Standard to be Waitlist but Saver Available.

Interesting find. You may have been able to book that saver online.

There are also forum reports of availability being seen on the iphone mobile app that are not available via the full website.

Phantom results - or opportunities to give forum members some extra insight/advantage.

aaron the SQ web site I'd not without it's glitches - but whenever you want to call SQ/KF re paid or rdpt bookings NEVER call an Australian office - ALWAYS call the SIN office on 02 9350 0203 - YES that is Oz number but it diverts straight through to SIN main call ctr.

YES you can add s/o to ow Saver award - just add $100.

And as a small piece of further advice NEVER rely on the SQ mobile app - it is so inaccurate and so unreliable I think SQ have even given up upgrading the app until it's new web site is up and running. That may not be 100% accurate but KF call ctr staff have told me they are so over it as it costs them more wasted time than any other matter before them.

with the increasing uptake of mobile devices as a way of doing biz, they really need to get on top of that.

so the latest in the saga...

called the SIN office again and spoke to another rep who gave me a different story....

he said that he could see availability SIN-CDG on the day I want (which is the leg I want after my stopover in SIN) but he says he can only book it if there is availability from my original destination i.e. SYD-SIN-CDG... otherwise he would need to cancel my original booking, and make two new ones (with separate mileage costs for each)

This makes no sense whatsoever.

I asked him... with that line of thinking, are you trying to tell me that there needs to be availability for the whole trip on both days (when I fly out initially and for the leg after my stopover?)

He didn't really understand and said that the computer wouldn't let him book it.

I think I might try the Australian call centres.

Aaron feel free to call Aus office if you choose - however SQ/KF call ctr in SIN is the place you really need to call. If you speak to an operator and you don't get satisfaction then politely ask to speak to a Manager - they should take your call.

I have done this in past and have had success this way.

Again briefly describe what you want to achieve and what you can see as available online. (Important point to remember here is that in most cases KF reps cannot see much more on their screens re availability than what you can).

Indeed for SQ metal.

For *A bookings through SQ they can in my experience often see a lot more than I can. And by being "friendly" with them sometimes when after first being told that there is no availability, or that the available route is quite torturous that they have volunteered to go off and check with a supervisor to "see what they can do". Several hours later I then get a phone call, often with good news.

I just wanted to confirm what I am thinking is actually correct.

I am wanting to book a saver award J from LAX-NRT-SIN-BNE.

We want to stay in Japan for a few days if possible. So we should go ahead and book the ticket, then call the centre to see if they can add the stopover in NRT? My issue is that I can only see availability 7 days later, would this mean the stopover has to be for 7days and not earlier? Or is it pot luck as to what they can book?

If we can't stay in Japan for that stopover, we are probably going to change our itinerary and spend more time in the USA. In this case, if we can't get the stopover, we have already booked the ticket and can't change it to stay more time in the USA :(

*edit: Or, do I not book it online and book straight through KF call centre and still get the 15% discount? Anyone know if the credit card used to book it over the phone has to match my KF account name?

Did you search LAX-NRT and NRT-SIN-BNE separately? They might show more availability than just a LAX-BNE search.

If you can find award available LAX-NRT on Day 1, and NRT-SIN-BNE on Day 5, then you ring up and book all that. You will still get the 15% discount and you pay US$100 for the stopover at NRT.

With respect to credit card payment, for my partner's ticket I used her points and my credit card, but then straight after booking was made I then booked my flighst using my points and my credit card. So technically yes the credit card doesn't have to the account holder but I guess I could be 'trusted?' given I was then booking flights in my name, using my card.

i'd suggest calling with your ideal itinerary and see if the system says yes.

i booked one recently and they didn't have the flights available, despite the separate legs being there. not sure if that was an unusual case, or whether it depends on the seating availability from the first port.

generally, the call centre are very good and want to help, but can be quite rigid with the way things have to be done.

Did you end up doing this? I want to do a partner redemption from YVR to NRT with a week stop over then onto SYD. I am told that I can't do a stop over for any price. Wondering if I should call again or just book and try to add a stop over. I guess the benieft is cheap cancelation fees

Sure did, but I was in J if that changes anything. $100 per person. We're doing LAX-NRT (3 night stopover)-SIN-BNE :)

I just called the number on the SQ website for Krisflyer. Told them what I wanted, took a while for them to understand exactly what I needed, but wasn't a problem when they figured it out.

So you called the number after booking? And I assume this was a KF reward booked online? I wonder if it being a partner reward makes a difference.

Thanks heaps

No I booked the flight over the phone from the beginning. Not online first.

Maybe it's because its a partner airline you want to use...

Last question :) Did you get the 15% discount? and if so what did you say for them to give it to you? Thinking I might make some changes and just go with KF
