Hi all,

If a mother is travelling on an award ticket with QF (QF1 all the way to LHR in F) does she need to pay additional to take her 18 month old son on board ?
What else would she need to do ? She obviously needs to tell QF about it so they could arrange bassinet etc ? Would the baby need a separate ticket ? How would this fare be calculated ?

Thanks

Needs to buy an infant ticket which is 10% of a normal fare + taxes and fines.

Hi all,

She'd need to ensure that they're allocated seat 5A, as this is the only seat in F that has a bassinet.

I just checked the QF website.
SYD-LHR return in F is about $10k.
SYD-LHR one way in F is about $10k lol.

So it would cost about a grand then ?
Hmmmmm

Did you book this ticket through Qantas Frequent Flyer? Then there is some good news.
The infant travels FREE (maybe pay a little taxes or so). Call up Qantas and get her added to the award ticket.

One of the better parts of the QF program.

Could this also be done if the booking is done through AA but on QF metal ?
Can I still call up QF and have the infant added to the booking ?

Little taxes with QF???
To LHR it's still quite a bit.

14.3.4 Infants under two years and not occupying a seat, travel without the need to redeem Qantas Points as long as the accompanying adult is travelling on a Classic Award. There is a limit of one infant per adult travelling on a Classic Award. Taxes, fees and carrier charges (including GST) may be payable in relation to infants as specified by Qantas Loyalty at the time a Member books a Classic Award.

No, you will need to pay the 10% plus taxes etc.

how much you think he'll need to pay? i've only redeemed an F from Syd to Hkg before and it wasnt that onerous from memory... certainly would be cheaper than paying 10% of the fare...

$1657 is the taxes etc on a round trip, 10% would add another $900+

For a data point... for two adults and our infant son the taxes on our LHR-SYD FASA were about $3200 all up! I think it was about a grand for our little bloke! Ouch!

We booked 2 F tickets AKL-SYD-LHR-DUB for later this year using AA miles (taxes were approx $120nzd each) and ended up paying around $1200nzd for our infants ticket so it can get quite expensive for a lap child.

Most bassinets are designed for infants in the true sense of the word ie babies generally up to 6 months of age. If you have a small infant they may still fit in the bassinet at 9 months of age.

An 18 month old toddler may be defined as an infant for the purpose of ticketing however they'll be way too big or heavy to fit in an aircraft bassinet so they will need to be held on the lap of the accompanying adult which in itself will be a challenge.
