Hi All

This is my first time posing hence excuse me if I am being amateur.

I want to take a family trip Sydney to Bali from 15 June to 23 June 2015.

I want to book award tickets for 2A+1C business class

Following are the balances in various FFS
Krisflyer- 300K can be transferred to Velocity
Skywards- 150K
Velocity- 100K can be transferred to Krisflyer
And stacks warehoused with various credit cards

I really don't care what airline to fly but want to fly Business Class
The only option I get is to fly SQ for 2 business class seats and 1 First Class for 320K points but seems hard to part with 2K in taxes where I can purchase Business class tickets for little more then 2K from Jetstar or Virgin

Any ideas please let me know.

Welcome to AFF, Swappy74.

If you are looking for J (business) then I would discount JQ as they are in effect only PE (premium economy) style seating.

You may have to buy 3x award adult seats as I don't know of any airline that offers a points reduction for a child.

By far the winning airline on this sector would be Garuda. I'd compare fares with them vs taxes and fuel surcharges that might come with a redemption.

I was looking at J class flights from Sydney to Bali in Sep 2015 and looking to burn some pts from Qantas on Jetstar. Was surprised to find little available J class (albeit star class) seats. Hence, interested in maybe booking some Garuda J tix if on sale. Their website is pretty poor regarding sales/promotions. Has anyone bought any sale fares of late from them (i.e. is this the time of year they might have a sale or is there another time?)?

I'm flying *class on jet* in march on the new dream liner. Having flown Jet* in "J" to Japan, I found the seats ok .
Is there any improvement on the old seats in the Dreamliner?
There was a boxing day sale that was quite good. Mrs GPH booked two seats in J for July ( status run) BNE-DPS. Return.
The price was less than my March price.
Look put for the deals on "luxury Escapes" some savings on cost , with some extras thrown in.

Personally I wouldn't bother paying for jetstar's business aka premium economy, especially for a short 6-7 hour flight. Use the saved money and stay at a nice resort instead.

I don't like flying in (even on QF) Y to NZ. So not going to enjoy sardine class on Jet* for 6-7-8 hours to anywhere.
At a pinch I will do BNE - SYD in Y ( but under protest)
This forum has ruined air travel for me, I have become way too selective and while 1A isn't a requirement, it's a nice way to spend the day. Points are easy, it's status that is getting harder to achieve ( I do nearly 100% of flying as leisure and at my cost) , hence the need to do the occasional flight on Jet*. (I suspect that 2015/2016 will be nearly impossible to retain WP)
Is the new Dreamliner *class seat that bad? I thought the old ones were just fine.
Besides I need the SC's. Hence my earlier reference to a status run.
I got a really good accommodation ( I think) deal at Le Meridian BTW.

I am going back again in July with Mrs GPH, (another status run) we were thinking rather than staying in Bali we could fly on to another Indonesian / Malaysian destination for part of our trip.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? Is Jakarta for example worth a visit?

Boxing day sale was offering some great deals in J ( limited destinations ) we watch the Friday sales each week to see what's on offer.

Thx for all the helpful tips guys.

When you say watch Fri sales, you mean Jetstar, right??

Doe Garuda do sales??

Jet* star class is lots of fun! And well worth it over economy. If you are on the 787 apparently the seats to get are the last row, right hand side. These seats have extra recline as they are used for crew rest on longer flights.

Garuda does have sales - anywhere from as low as $1400-$1800 for Bali (return). Garuda's business class is often cheaper than JQ's starclass.

But Garuda's economy is also good - and preferred over JQ economy. You're basically getting full service - and again with economy, it can sometimes be cheaper than jetstar. One of the advantages of Garuda is the early departure from Australia. You can be in your resort by the pool by mid afternoon while Jetstar and Vermin pax are still making their way to the airport. (Although i think JQ now has an earlier flight as well?)

Thanks for your reply I am not after points reduction for child. I am happy to burn some points as long as I get 3 award seats

Thanks for replying I want to use my FFP to book 3 tickets to bali in June. No budget as such but SQ have seats but their 2K taxes are too high to pay

Thanks for your reply. Garuda quoted me 6K for 3 pax business class. Too expensive considering SQ 3 seats for 300K FFP and 2K taxes are cheaper in my mind

Flew to Bali in October on the 787. *class has gone backwards with the introduction of the 787. There is no reasonable leg rests anymore, just an iron bar foot rest that digs into your feet after an hour or so.

The armrest seems narrower too so always fighting for the middle arm rest.

Only 3 rows of seating so the cabin is tiny. Economy in the forward section of the plane disembark before *class which is a huge loss in DPS as getting to immigration 1st is invaluable there.

Food has imported greatly though to be fair.

I'm reluctant to fly Y and will be willing to accept up to 8 hours in Y. End of the day, I don't rate JQ business class at all. I paid for it once to HKT and the 2nd time to HNL and then made the decision never to go JQ business or any Y+ cabin. It's either a fully flat bed in business class, otherwise anything else like JQ business class is just a gimmick. That said Air Asia X premium cabin is a angled flat bed and that's worth paying for. And I'm with you, AFF ruined my acceptance of Y cabins, because of everyone here managed to now go RTW twice in business, multiple trips to Europe in First, next July it's a RTW in First :) so as much as I don't like Y, if its $400-$500+ and two of us travelling, I'd be happy to suck it up for upto 8 hours and save the $1,000 for ground activity or hotels.

Don't they hold Y back for disembarkation ? Poor form even for a LCC of standing. Sorry OT

They can't on the 787. One door is used and it is behind the front cabin which has business at the front followed by a fee rows of economy.

I already tried to get those seats for July, but they are blocked (or already taken) both ways. However, I'll keep checking
