Industry rumour - Qantas CEO Alan Joyce to go soon and ex Westpac CEO Gail Kelly to take over?

"OK, so this is a rumour and albeit from a very reliable source, I have failed to obtain any substantiation, but with QF CEO Alan Joyce once again – the second time in just over six months – announcing some very significant senior management changes last week, the industry rumour mill is also saying that Joyce’ days are numbered and that former Westpac Bank CEO Gail Kelly is set to take over the helm at Qantas."

I guess expecting the board to look for someone that actually knows anything about the airline business is too much to expect.

With no disrespect to Gail Kelly surely there must be a much more appropriately experienced person in the market place.

As much as I would like to see AJ leave I cant see that happening till more of the transformation program has been completed.

I think it would be a good choice. The chance of getting one of the successful CEOs out there is remote more likely another from a failed airline. Gail Kelly would provide the great business smarts that AJ does not have. And besides I will be able to understand her when she speaks.

I think there will be plenty of people rubbing their hands hoping that at least half of this rumour is true.

For a while, the only way it would seem people would see AJ out of a position he appeared not to deserve would be death.

Given the changes announced last week, nothing would surprise me.

Gail Kelly in her time at Westpac doubled the market capitalisation of the company......but Alan Joyce has done that in the past two months for Qantas :p

I don't bank with Westpac, but how has the customer experience improved/declined during Gail Kelly's tenure? Could give an insight into how she would manage Qantas?

#1 on the list would be outsourcing everything to India.

I reckon they'll want an airline executive to have some aviation experience.

If you look purely at financial performance projections and current share price, AJ is actually doing a very good job at the moment.

and it took a very long time to get to the current position.

Bring on Gail :)

Hence it will be difficult for him to be moved on unless he wants to go.

Joyce; create the problem, let it fester blaming high wages and other factors outside his personal control etc, then ride into the rescue.

Won't happen but it would be good if it did.

All the rumours doing the rounds are if Joyce goes, it will be Jayne Hrdlicka in charge............wrong on so many levels
