How do we go about creating a Sticky body of knowledge for the vexing question of SQ Waitlists. It seems to be common question of many visitors to this thread.

What are the chance of my Waitlist clearing?

How do I get my Waitlist to clear?

How do SQ Waitlists work?

How have people been successful with Waitlists?

What are strategies for successfully obtaining flights on Waitlisted segments?

What other questions can we include?

Re: Everything you need to know about Krisflyer Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing

Just had SQ212 F class clear for 2/1/15 (was confirmed in J) then Suites to CDG on SQ 336 at midnight

Happy about this, have only ever been in suites so interested to try the other F product even though not the new 777ER F.

But if I have to leave at 9.00am then so be it for early drinks of Krug and Dom.

Will take my time then onto the red wine list.

About 8 hours wait till the midnight CDG suites flight.

Plenty of time to recover in TPR, shower go to town for sunset and back to TPR to get ready for SIN/CDG

Then off for 2 weeks skiing.

Am wait listed same day for the later A380 suites and also the SQ 222 which is the new 777-ER F product out of SYD

Fingers crossed but first world problems ;)))

Better get a workout in before this journey!

Re: Everything you need to know about Krisflyer Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing

Earlier this year I had two confirmed J tickets from PER to IST and two Y tickets with a wait list for those in J. They didn't clear automatically but I checked about ten days before the flight and found that it was possible to book two tickets from PER to IST leaving PER at a different time but with the same flight from SIN to IST. My wife wanted the family to all stay together so I called the airline and asked if it was possible to have the available SIN to IST tickets issued to us and remain on the waitlist for PER to SIN. After some time the agent re-issued our tickets so that we now had 2 J and 2 Y PER to SIN and 4 J SIN to IST. The PER to SIN waitlist never cleared so the kids had to do that leg in Y but it was really the overnight flat bed that we were after so we were very happy to have all of us in J from SIN to IST. Interestingly there were two vacant J seats on the PER to SIN flight and when we asked about getting them at the lounge the lady relayed the message that Singapore wouldn't issue saver upgrades for that flight and they actually flew empty which surprised me.

Anyway the moral of the story is not to trust the system to automatically issue the upgrade. Keep checking if an individual sector becomes available.

Re: Everything you need to know about Krisflyer Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing

I concur.

Always keep checking single and combined sectors in F & J

Is one indicator of the likelihood of a Waitlist clearing the Seat Map for the intended flight. For instance, for my upcoming preferred itinerary I know the following:

a) I am holding a ticketed and paid Y redemption BNE-MNL
b) I have a J Saver waitlist for the same flights. If it comes through I will cancel the Y redemption.
c) On the preferred itin, Saver is Waitlist, Standard & Full redemption levels are Available.

Doing a dummy booking up to Payment stage for a Standard redemption gives me access to the Seat Map to select my seats without committing to the payment. The seat map as of today, 21 days out.

BNE-SIN 14 out of 30 J seats allocated
SIN-MNL 4 out of 30 J seat allocated.

For Academic purposes I'll monitor this over the few weeks. Has anyone got any feedback if they have previously observed any trends in seat allocation and Waitlist clearance?

Well done Alby, I hadn't thought of doing the dummy booking to get to see seat availability!

You would think most peopl if booked in J they would select their seat as the seat map only shows pax who have selected their seat, not necessarilty all those J bookings on the flight

My seat map idea might crash as soon as it was floated. When I look at the economy section in which I picked up the Y Saver, that class still has Standard & Full Y redemption available allowing up to 6 more Y seats, more than are shown on the seat map.

I have over 15 wait lists in F. Will try some testing today
So you have to have enough points in your account to cover the cost of the wait listed request. Would that be all 15 flights or just the dearest one with all others covered. I stuffed up last year on a wait list (same sector different departure) as I thought the points I had used for the redemption would transfer to the wait list if cleared. I had no points in my account at the time so although seats were available nothing cleared. Live and learn your are never to old.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I always ensure I have enough points when I create the waitlist (it won't work if you don't so cretate all your wait lists then ticket what you can get.

Then ensure you have enough points in the account to clear any wiatlists.

I tested some wait listed flights yesterday for my SYD/SIN trip on 2/1/15.

SQ 232 and SQ 222.

on the SQ website they weren't even selling F/Suites so I guess chances of a waitlist clearng are zip.

At least I got SQ 222 F cleared 10 days ago!!

So still happy

Have had a waitlisted flight listed for travel early in 2015 on waitlist since the 8th of October in Suites. I asked if I should also book a Business Class seat just in case but was told to leave it as it is by Cristal before she left SQ. I was also told that as this is a flight from SYD-SIN that the waitlist could only be cleared by SQ in Australia and not SQ in Singapore by a different team member. A few months to go and we shall see what happens. I am tempted just to pony up the extra points and go for a standard seat over the Saver just to secure it. What to do, what to do...

If you have the points and want certainity book a standard.

your Waithlist can then be worked on

Nice ot have some firm plans to travel so you can put in other activity around those flights. I guess if a Saver comes through you could cancel and refund the Standard miles and ticket the Saver.

Well SQ just delivered me an early Christmas present. Glad I took Cristal's advice. My waitlist cleared for the end of February in Suites from SYD-SIN. Very happy. Thanks SQ :)

Looks like a happy J class, changi dollar New Year coming up.

My New Year waitlist cleared. Two observations:

It cleared 14 days before departure. I'm wondering if it is a standard T-14 day script that the system goes through. Pleas report on relative time frames when your waitlist clears.

Following up on my 'seat map' theory there was no change to the number of seats that had been allocated by the time my waitist cleared.

What was the advice ?

To leave the waitlist and not to add a backup ie. a Standard seat, or a seat in another class.

albatross710- Around 78 Days before departure my Waitlist has cleared for Suites Class. So that is 3 of us I have on that flight in Suites. Looking forward to it.
