QF Boxed Dinners

I don't find a sodden lump of cheesy goo with bits of pasta randomly sticking out to be OK. The other boxed dinners have been better than ok, even perhaps the poached chicken.

I really liked the chicken salad box - was healthy for a change. QF Y catering is better than VA J!

Dinner on the QF551 this evening was a Beef stir fry with Oyster sauce and noodles or Mediterranean salad with chick peas and falafel. Went with the hot option and was pleasantly surprised with the taste, portion and the amount of beef in the box (~10 slices).

QF694 ADL-MEL 26/11/14. Choice was beef and black bean (hot), chicken and cous-cous salad. I opted for the salad:

Sadly that is sometimes almost the only difference between Y and J meals on Dom flights.
Fortunately for me, the bulk of my QF flying is international long haul.
And my infrequent domestic flights tend to be outside meal times, so - TBTG - I've encountered the dreaded cardboard box only once, to date. Will avoid, by whatever means, in future.
If it means flying MEL-SYD via LHR in F, that's a sacrifice I will just have to make. :)

Had the penne pasta again on Friday night. A bit of variety would be nice.

The guy next to me had some sort of salad. Chicken? Won't be choosing that option anytime soon even if the pasta is bland.

I didn't find my lunches Sat and yesterday filling enough, was travelling in discY though.
Boxed lunches, usable with one hand.
Lucky I still have QP and will get SG by end of Dec.
Fill up in there, and just accept the miniscule "oblong brown cardboard box contents" for lunch.
Haven't had the "squarish brown cardboard box contents" (yet), will be doing QF dinner Christmas Day, PER - MEL.
Some on here say though that QF Au transcon does not do boxed dinners.
Paws crossed, wonder whats on offer that day.
Edit: no wonder, (sorry), from what I see and compare on Google Images, what I have been getting is the "refreshments" and not the actual boxed lunches. Sorry.

I'm not a big fan of the pastas so I usually choose the salads. The one hot meal I really like is the fish & chips.

Google Images won't show any of that oblong box of what QF calls "refreshments", Google only shows the square box lunch and dinners.
But your point about travelling in discY, yes, its true. You get what you pay for.
I am not rich, and don't travel for the work side of things, can't claim the QF or VA travel as work expenses, so have to go discY.
Some trips I have made were in J, but these were the minimum discJ at that too.

You know when you don't like something and you keep getting the things you don't like?

One of these days.

I had my first dinner box on Saturday night (was actually hoping they wouldn't upgrade me for a change) and was very impressed with the salad!
