Tourists travelling to India from 43 countries including Australia will no longer have to queue at their local consulates to obtain visas after New Delhi announced a long-awaited easing of border controls.
Tourists from countries including the US, Brazil, Germany and Japan will now be able to apply online and then receive the green light within four days, before getting their visa at an airport on arrival.

Nice. I work in the Melbourne building that houses the Indian visa office, so hopefully this will result in a reduction of lift traffic :)

The Indian photo requirements are completely different to every other passport photo. The photography shop located near the Indian Agency in Adelaide does a booming trade resizing the normal passport photo for India applications.

2 inches by 2 inches. Bloody hell! Took me a while to re-format my photo yesterday; and then I found out about this!!!!!!!

Oh well, at least this makes it a lot easier next time!

This MAY motivate me to visit India ONCE in my lifetime...

You need to experience India - there is no place in the world like India. But pick the right time to travel.

Of course: Tourist visa on arrival (TVoA) fee is US$ 60/- per passenger excluding interchange charge for credit/debit cards. The fee must be paid 4 days before the expected date of travel filled by you otherwise application will not be processed.

That's annoying. Until that's also relaxed, I won't go to India.
I avoid places where I have to prepay for visas and do heaps of paperwork.
The only visa I've ever paid for was to enter Jordon, and that was a fee in USD at a booth in front of the immigration counters upon arrival.
The only reason I've made stops at PVG and PEK was because China made the 72 hour no visa transit possible.

However, if arriving in an Indian port on a cruise ship (which we will be doing in March 15) apparently you have to apply on-line and attend an interview at your nearest embassy. This is really inconvenient for those who do not live anywhere near Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth or Brisbane :(.
