I need to do a return trip on this leg on 26/12 and 04/1. Unfortunately there is no UL/RJ or other cheap J SC source.

What do people think of these prices and what should I choose?

CX - Economy (L) - $4,623
MH - Economy (O) - no QFF SC - $1,593
MH - J - $5,091.

What are loads at this time of year like? These MH prices seem pretty good but for a flight that distance I'm not sure I want to pay $5k... - it still works out to like A$4.50 per SC. That Economy price on MH is pretty cheap!

I'd go Malaysian for the price+oneworld benefits and if you need the extra SC then use the $$$ you saved and do a status run

Actually I was wondering what if I bought the MH fare in economy and paid for a counter upgrade - what is the going rate and would I get SC?

Counter upgrades apparently book into I class and don't earn points.

Air Asia to kul then do an ex tpe run to SIN later :)

Still more expensive than MH J which would earn 80 SC each way.

Yes true, but since MH don't fly the A380 anymore HKG-KUL that only leaves you with a 777-200 or 737-800 flights, whilst its not bad for a 4 hour flight I sure miss the MH A380 on this route (Maybe they use it seasonally now?)

The 772 will do for that distance. I think the A380 has been gone for a while.

Flight Centre quoted HK$100 under MH website. So am going to see if they have a good value package with hotel to tempt me to book J.

Can you get to KUL on award and do a return out of Asia somewhere. Colombo is good for points accumulation.

I presume you will be going back at some stage there the return out if Asia could make sense

Just booked HKG-KUL return J on MH. HK$4,701. Amazing value when you consider that CX was $4,600 in Economy for the same dates.

Flew Business Class HKG-xKUL-PEN return last January; fare (HKG-PEN) was around AUD550. It was about $250 cheaper than HKG-KUL. Then flew MH PEN-KUL return in economy for about $45 each way.

HKG/KUL was in 738 ...
