Probably the wrong thread, but maybe I can get an answer anyway. Let's say I change jobs, now my current position allows me to book cars through Avis at a very good rate with a Wizard card attached to the company AWD, so would AVIS overly care if I carried on using that AWD? How would they know I was no longer with the company who previously issued the Wizard card as all I need do is change the credit card from the corporate card to my personal. Has anyone done this before with success?

With any use of a CDP with rental cars, be careful. In many (perhaps not all), use of a CDP that is not authorised can lead to difficulties when claiming on insurance.

I did this with Avis for 3 years . My company AWD was attached to my wizard card , no question asked or ID requested at any time . Ironically i have now returned to the same company so its no longer a problem . The company has had the same AWD for 10+ years .

Issues could be if your 'ex-company' AWD attached to the Wizard card has an insurance component included .... as they normal do as part of the group deal.

If you were involved in a accident that could get 'messy' very quickly with you left to answer awkward questions and more than likely left carrying the can.

I know a few people doing the same thing with Budget Fast Break BCD's .......

Bit too messy for my liking if it does go pear shape........ with insurance the issue would be around 'full disclosure' ???

Hi Mal - If I am taking a full comprehensive insurance, one would expect this wouldn't matter?

You cannot get full cover on a rent a car, its either excess coverage via travel or similar insurance or its the car companies coverage which includes LDW. If your found to be using a code that your not entitled to, LDW is removed (and thereby the excess) and your fully liable with no insurer covering you, that includes loss of use and diminished value provisions.

Why not ask your former employer if they're happy that you're using benefits they've negotiated for their current employees?

I reckon they'd be very unhappy and might even ask you what other company information you've kept. After all these codes are for use of current employees and when leaving an employer, unless specifically told otherwise you're not allowed to use company information for your own benefit. Your employment contract will usually specify what can and cannot be retained.

That's a bit of hyperbole!. I work through my own company, the "negotiation" I did with Hertz was to fill in a form and they sent me a CDP. It took about a minute. From my previous experience with companies I dont think most would care much, markis10's reason is I feel somewhat more compelling!

Years ago I did this with a hertz cdp for years afte od left..The best part was it reduced damage excess to 700 aud which came in handy when I scraped a Nissan against a carpark pole....fortunately no questions about cdp just paid the excess and left it at that.

Probably wouldn't be game to do it these days though but not an issue really as new job has a new good hertz cdp.

Another view (I'm not saying it's mine, just giving a different view) is that it may benefit the company by providing them more volume. Volume = more bargaining power when negotiations come around = potentially lower corporate rate in the future.

;)

Personally, I think it's a bit messy for car hire where (as pointed out) there could be (and often are) insurance considerations.

I believe the title of this thread might provide an answer to this question.
