So it's a targeted offer?

I haven't got the points yet, but I have got the annual fee cashback (under Qff promotion). It looks like you didn't need the targeted email, only just the link.

Spent $1500 on the card 26 Jul, QFF Promotion $125 credited on 11 Aug, annual fee $250 charged on 26 Aug, 40k Qantas points received on 28 Aug

$125 for 40k Qantas points

Thanks OP

Isn't it only a $500 spend to get the points? I did my $500 in the first week after I activated the card but at the end of the cycle no bonus points so far but the monthly spend points have hit my QFF account. I think T's & C's say up to 4 months.

Yes you are correct. Only $500 spend is required to get the bonus 40k Q points. I got mixed up with the ANZ $1500 spend

I currently have a Commbank non-reward card, and unfortunately I missed out on this promotion.
I've just called Commbank to cancel my card thinking I'll shop around for other cards with sign on bonuses and maybe consider coming back to Commbank when their next sign on promotion starts. I was offered a free switch to the basic rewards card with a $59 fee and a bonus 10,000 points to get me started.

What I'm concerned about is if I take these points and switch, will that likely preclude me from taking advantage of a sign on bonus with another Commbank offer in the future? IE, if i hold a Commbank rewards card already I can't obtain another bonus for a different Commbankrewards card? What about if I cancel this card and don't hold any Commbank cards at the time that the next offer occurs?

I'm just trying to establish whether it is worth taking the 10,000 points and swapping over, or if I should just close for the time being, go elsewhere, and come back when the next promotion is on.

Thanks for your guidance :)

Anyone still waiting on the points and refund of half the annual fee?

You're not going to get them...

As one poster pointed out, the offer is only technically valid if you received a direct email about the promotion... I applied for a similar one - where they originate on Qantas' Member Specials page - implying that as a member of Qantas FF, you'll be able to take advantage of the offers posted on that page - not so fast....

The asterisk qualification on the Qantas page @ https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/cards/commonwealth-bank-bonus clearly shows what the other posted published (* Offer only applies to the recipient of an email from Qantas about the offer....) and they (CommBank) advise you of this after you call up when 3 months has gone by & no points and no discount & tell you to go away.

The misleading part is, firstly, that qualification term is buried down the bottom of the Qantas page terms in 'member specials' in small print & not prominent, and secondly, the qualification changes once you reach the actual Commbank page - the qualification simply changes to saying that you need to apply via that link on the page - nothing about having to receive a targeted email to apply.

If you were lucky, or received a targeted email then you may have your points & annual fee discount. If you weren't, then you have to call to complain about their misleading & deceptive advertisements - I wonder how many people were denied their points & discount because of this???

The funny thing to me too is how many sites and blogs etc. come up when you search for these offers - specifically the CommBank ones that originate on the Qantas pages - none of them mention about having to receive an email to qualify - that just highlights how deceptive it really is when you have news outlets and the like pushing these offers and don't realise their readers are ineligible unless having received this mythical email from Qantas...

Eventually after raising a complaint with them, the financial ombudsman & ASIC we received our points & discount, but ASIC, being the toothless tiger that they are, declined to take any further action claiming that there was no evidence of misleading conduct... yeah right.

Also readers, don't forget how applying for credit cards can negatively affect your credit rating. If you apply for too many things this will knock your score down - sign up for Veda alerts with credit score, a handy tool to have to monitor your score & alert you to any activity on your credit file to help prevent possible fraud & identity theft.

Cheers,
Bert!
