The 1159 fare must be available at some time for the date ranges specified.

If the fare is no longer available at either the beginning or the end of the stated period, that should be updated by QF. If the fare has changed in the middle, the general price indicator is correct.

Exactly, says when clicking the graph price - 1149 (AUD) 02 Oct 2014 - 03 DEC 2014.

Says Honolulu return from meaning various prices in graph shown, if not then above is incorrect.

So if all cheap fares are gone for 17 October the graphic should read from 02 October - 16 October and from 18 October - 03 December?

I know we love to knock Qantas at every opportunity but when looking at sale airfares I know and expect some dates are not going to be available and some days are going to be cheaper than others.

Thats how I see it, should not show whats not there.

If it is impossible to get any combination of fares to reach the $1159 on any of the dates during the period specified the fare should be updated IMO. Otherwise you'd be advertising something that isn't available. (If the cheapest outbound fare on 02 October was $1159, the return for the same price would be impossible, hence reflect that.)

Yes, why not? The graph on the sale page has plenty of up and down jumps, even for very short periods, showing when fares are on sale, or not available for the sale price on those days.

If a company advertises a sale price for an item for a particular day, then I expect it to be available on that day. If they have 'sold out' of sale items for that day, then they need to take down the sale price advertisement for that day. Otherwise, sell it to me for the sale price. Otherwise its just 'bait and switch' (headline to get you into the store, oh, product not available, here's a more expensive one when you are there).

Geez the cynicism is growing. If you are able to get the $1159 fare within that time period, the page is not incorrect.
I agree with JohnK in that some people do get silly with these things. Why make it more complicated than what it has to be.

It clearly says when clicking the graph price - 1149 (AUD) 02 Oct 2014 - 03 DEC 2014 not $1558.

It doesn't say return from meaning the above dates, it means different dates in the graph have other prices.

I think its misleading.

The text 'from' means within any given period on the graph, return fares are available for that price. Some prices within each segment of the graph might be more expensive.

However - if there were portions of the graph where it would be unreasonable for a person to have to stay in HNL for an extended period of time, that should be reflected. For example, most people probably go to HNL for a week or two on holiday. If there are periods exceeding two weeks where the fare is impossible, I'd expect a 'blip' to be inserted with the new higher price.

Thats how I read it each period has a set price other periods have a set price so variants meaning from.

each period on the graph is separate. each period on the graph is 'from', and there are variances in each period. The $1159 is not a blanket price for that period, it is 'from' based in the lowest available fares for that time.

So why does it say between one price and another price and why it is the graph in one line?, if prices are different 2/10 to 3/12then the graph should show it as it does with other months.

because for the period you have highlighted on the graph, the cheapest possible round-trip fare is $1159. That's the absolute cheapest. As the fares are put together as two one-ways, fares can be higher than that if the really cheap fares have sold out on either the flight there or back. I have looked at the pricing graph and it is possible to get fares for the $1159 advertised during that period, just not on the specific dates you are after.

Qantas already provides that feature when you are looking at a series of dates and you can see the outbound and inbound airfares by day.

I like the graph Qantas uses. I can see the dates covered by the sale easily. I know each day is not going to be available. I wouldn't want to see a graph going up and down for very short time periods as that graph then becomes too busy.

In my book if it says a fare between dates that is the fare, its not different once you go to site.

Complicated? Like showing the correct dates when the sale price is available? Gee, we aren't asking much are we?

With your rationale, if BP advertises fuel for '$1.10/litre May to September' on a sign outside the service station, but when you get to the pump, its $1.50/litre, because the 'sale' price isn't available on that particular day, you'd be OK with that? After all, the $1.10/litre price was available on some days during May to September.

No, the graph Qantas displays is broken down into segments, (supposedly) showing the days/periods when the sale price is available, and those when its not. If they have run out of sale priced seats at certain time, then the graph should be adjusted - easy to do by reasonably competent IT people. Oh, but then again ...
Bait and switch.

Bait and switch.

the critical word is 'from'. The fuel example omits the word 'from'. Qantas does not.
