Didn't see any other threads about it so here it is.

Double points for bookings made up to 28 July for travel 1 October to 25 June 2015

What do I have to do?

  1. Register and make a new booking between 17 and 28 July 2014,*
  2. Travel on an eligible Qantas flight[SUP]^[/SUP] between 1 October 2014 and 25 June 2015,* and
  3. Ensure your Qantas Frequent Flyer number is in your booking.

Apparently this promotion has been running for 4 days already.

Frequent Flyer - Member Specials - 50% more Qantas Points on trans-Tasman flights

Just received this email this evening and have registered. Appears to be targeted?

Got it too. My guess its targeted, I had to confirm with my registered email address.

I was able to register via the link above.

If I create a flight booking from a voucher I've purchased will I still get double points? Red Roo can you please clarify?

Didn't get an email for it, but registered.

I didn't do it at first as I thought it was only for trans-Tasman flights, but appears it's for all :D

It has been running for four days, however I like the double points offer. It also looks like there are some slightly different prices and travel dates. ;)

Yes, four days in is when I get the email... I'm not that impressed.

I don't think it's targeted, it's just part of the normal sale email.

I booked a flight yesterday as part of the sale, but my flight is prior to 1 Oct, so no double points joy for me.

if you buy the initial voucher between the eligible dates you should get the double points. If the voucher was initially purchased before 17 July then I reckon no double points.

I have been able to register successfully with confirmation email. This is all flights not just Trans-Tasman?

This was always a difficult one. I have challenged QFF and have had flights booked with an old voucher credit with double SCs.

It is a new booking regardless of when the shell booking was created by Qantas IT when purchasing the voucher.

A discount economy return SYD-HKG return should earn a Platinum 60 SCs and 10,800 x 2 = 21,600 or an economy return SYD-HKG should earn a Platinum 80 SCs and 15,600 x 2 = 31,200 and only costs ~$125 more.

And for $19 more a discount economy return SYD-BNE-HKG should earn a Platinum 80 SCs and 21,600 + (1,600 x 2) = 24,800 or for $19 more an economy return SYD-BNE-HKG should earn a Platinum 120 SCs a nd 31,200 + (2,000 x 2) = 35,200 QFF points.

So in reality ~$978 for 35,200 QFF points and they throw in a free return flight to HKG!

Are my calculations right or am I getting carried away?

presumably the double points are only issued on the BASE points not the platinum bonus

edited to add: maybe i was wrong looking at this :

bonus Qantas Points offer is added to the total Qantas Points earned after any
applicable Status Bonus has been applied.

So a December voucher and ~$500 cash is not a new booking?

I agree it is a new booking. And I've also successfully argued to get double SC. But the reality is an old voucher will not automatically get the double points. You and I have no problem arguing the case. But I'm not sure how successful that might be for this promo. Besides, I'm hoping the status quo for vouchers is better in the long run, hence it would be only fair to buy a new voucher.

The flight I purchased today was before October 1st so it's going to be a no deal regardless but it does raise an interesting discussion point for these kind of promotions.

Contemplating purchasing flights for November.... just can't convince myself to part with my money just yet.

You are probably right.

I was going to book using 2 old vouchers but I could just as easily purchase 2 x $50 vouchers now and book 2 returns for April and June.

SYD-HKG discount economy return is 2600 x 2 points for a NB. As a WP you would get double that, so 10400 points total + 60 SCs. An economy return would earn 3900 x 2 = 7800 + status bonus of 7800 = 15600 points total + 80 SCs.

Routing via BNE would add 20 SCs and 800 x 2 points (no status bonus due to minimum points) if routed via BNE both directions.
