[h=3]Flying boats and war: 1934 to 1945[edit][/h]
In 1934, QANTAS Limited and Britain's Imperial Airways (a forerunner of British Airways) formed a new company, Qantas Empire Airways Limited (QEA). Each partner held 49%, with two per cent in the hands of an independent arbitrator.[SUP][5][/SUP] The new airline commenced operations in December 1934 flying between Brisbane and Darwin using obsolescent DH.50 and de Havilland DH.61 biplanes.
QEA flew internationally from May 1935, when the service from Darwin was extended to Singapore using newer de Havilland DH.86s. Imperial Airways operated the rest of the service through to London. In July 1938 this operation was replaced by a thrice weekly flying boat service using Shorts S.23 Empire flying boats. The Sydney to Southampton service took nine days, with passengers staying in hotels

It appears not to have commenced International flights until 1935 and then as far as Singapore with The UK coming later and only to Southampton and not London. Below is take from QF History from Qnatas Website

1930 Qantas establishes its headquarters in Brisbane.
1931 Qantas carries airmail from Brisbane to Darwin as part of an experimental service to the UK.
1934 The company name changes to Qantas Empire Airways Limited.
1935 A Qantas DH86 operates the airline's first overseas flight, from Darwin to Singapore, carrying airmail bound to the UK in cooperation with Imperial Airways (later BOAC).

Captain P W Lynch Blosse took off in 'Cooee' on 5 July to inaugurate the Sydney-Southampton service. The first official service left Rose Bay for Singapore on 4 August 1938 It was a heady time in Australian civil aviation, but there was little more than a year of peacetime flying ahead for Qantas.
