Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant

i would be interested to hear some more detail as to why you think there were lies? I watched the interview in the project and it seemed ok to me! :) or are the comments more focussed on the book itself?

He mentioned we keep lists about you and share it with crew. We have better things to do than keep track of passengers we may not particularly like.

40 countries? I'll give $100 to the first person to list the 40 countries QF has flown to over the last 12 years.

First class only? We don't have dedicated first positions. You work either F/J or W/Y.

He looked after Katy Perry? She was onboard, but he didn't serve her. He was working in economy, while she was travelling in either F/J.

I'm sure there are more but I won't be picking up the book to find out what else is most likely highly exaggerated or just down right incorrect.

As I said, you've got a pilot and a crew member with their own threads more or less who have always been happy to provide factual, honest responses to your questions about their respective jobs.

oh! Thanks. I expected there to be a bit of puffery :) And he has a picture with KP!

I only get to about 20 countries QF has flown to... but that's going back around 20 years.

I also find this very interesting:

If you read news.com.au

The worst, however, was a career-ending spinal injury in 2011 during a training exercise.

If you read SMH.com.au

After suffering a workplace injury, breaking his back in three places falling down the galley stairs

Well which one is it? I doubt the later, as none of our galley's actually have stairs.

l thought he was referring to the upper deck galley stairs. on the a380 there is the spiral staircase leading to the galley.

I guess I term the phrase galley stairs differently but yes there are various sets of stairs to injure yourself on including the ladder to the crew rest as well. That's assuming that version is the correct one.

milehighclub, do QF crew have to sign confidentiality agreements to stop this exact thing happening?

I saw him on the Project last night and was pretty uninspired to read the book. They didn't ask him the one question I wanted them to: 'what does QF think about you publishing this book?' and he seems to have the same few jokes that he wheels out for every media opportunity (i.e. making Katy Perrys breakfast).

He also came across as that stereotypical camp older gay that reduces everything down to smutty inuendo and cheap insults and seems unable to have a serious adult conversation. As a gay man myself I have a real problem with other gays who personnify this stereotype and it tells the world gays must have a 'gay' job and can't do anything else.

I haven't seen him, but from what most of you are saying, he falls into the borderline let's make a buck variety and will fall into oblivion fairly quickly, making a modest amount of money, whilst becoming infamous for a nanosecond.

Having actually read the book I still think it's well written and interesting, I would question the motivations of those who are bagging it actually without reading it....

The FA's who wrote the book, had a career ending injury with QF. So I guess he needed to do something to pay the bills.

I think that in itself says more about the situation than any book. Would he have written the book had he not been injured I wonder?

Tit for tat perhaps because he didn't get the desired outcome?

I can come up with 15, and that's including a couple which I am iffy as to if they can be included in the last 12.

I think he actually claimed 40 destinations, not 40 countries. What the various publications and media outlets may have run with is a different story. Even so I think 40 is inaccurate.

So you are somehow blaming him for poor reporting? Sounds to me like you have a dog in this fight too?

Tell me you are Toby Thomas and i will be believe you:)

Even 40 international destination's would be hard pressed.

Yes, there are places like USA and NZ which have multiple cities serviced by QF flights. But even then most countries only have one city which is directly serviced with those going to other placed then put onto local code shares. So even then it only pushes the number up to 22.

Just downloaded and have read about 50 (iPhone) pages.

This has to be one of the worst pieces of cough ever put to print.

Sure his story might be of interest but wow, the writing is atrocious.

While I know it's not the fount of all knowledge when I googled Quantas destinations and had a look at the list on Wikipedia it's fairly amazing the list of destinations that Qantas has flown to at some stage but no longer does.

Although some of the destinations listed on Wikipedia are inaccurate, for example ATL,BOS which reference timetables where these were only codeshares. SEA and ORD also fall I to this category I think, unless QF flew there a long long time ago.
