Hi All

It stuck me as I tried to digest the Qantas "simpler and fairer" changes, that my biggest issue was trying to wade through a mess of .png files masquerading as "tables". Putting aside the complexity of having to look at regions etc, to determine points and status credits, the system isn't that different from before - but the layout of the information is woeful. So I thought I'd have a crack at putting the information back into a digestible format that we were all more used to.

Putting aside partner airline SC and points earn, if you look at the Qantas flights earning component, it's basically as follows:

1. Mileage-based system for QF Domestic Flights (Zones); and
2. Region-based and/or Mileage-based for QF International Flights (Regional and Zonal).

As an example, although the Domestic earn explanation makes it look region-based with all the "example" routes and names like "Domestic Short", "Domestic Medium" and "Domestic Long", if you look at the definitions, these are still mileage based. So rather than Qantas' confusing categories which seem to require you to instinctively know distances or pray for an example route to be mentioned, you could instead summarise them as follows:

Voila! Now we can once again plug routes into tools like Mileage Monkey and work out our SCs for domestic runs.

A similar process can be followed for International routes and for points earn.

Before I spend too much time filling the interweb with this, I'd like to understand if people see the above as useful? If they do, I'm happy to construct and upload the remaining tables. Perhaps down the track, someone who is more savvy than me could work on a website with an ACTUAL USEFUL calculator too??

Anyway, let me know your thoughts....and if you think I've made a glaring error in my assessment and attempt to simplify.

Isn't that table how it was previously? I don't see why it had to be made any harder than that. If you want to add extra levels of earning (flexible business etc), go ahead, but keep the basics simple.

Yes - it is like it was before. And that's my point - earn rates aside, it's not that different. It's just really hard to understand the QF tables. So this is about making it simpler again.

Im just waiting for them to introduce Premium Economy and First Class Domestic especially on 737's :) :)

Without wishing to blow my own trumpet too much, especially as this should still be considered a beta version of an SC and Points calculator.... see here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....late-points-scs-qantas-42684.html#post1033331.

Feedback here or the other thread welcome. Note that one 'bug' I found is that it only works with ex-Aus flights, so for inbound itineraries just switch the origin and destination around before you enter them.

Great! Will check it out. :)

Not to censor discussion, but I was hoping this thread would be more about clarifying the earn rates rather than another thread on how badly Qantas has done things etc.

Let's face it, there's already enough threads like that.

So it would be good if we could try and keep the discussion to whether the tables are useful - or suggestions for how we can make it easy to calculate SCs and points again!

Sorry for the image file - can't upload the table without formatting issues...

as the title of the post alludes to points too, the new partner earns are up.....no more status bonus for AA or others. Makes a big difference in points earned!

The tables are certainly much easier and less cluttered well done

Interesting in the summary page of partner FF earnings, it completely omits the status bonus for AA.
However, clicking on American Airlines, it clearly states a status bonus, and the there is this page, which explains when a status bonus applies

Qantas said "simpler and fairer"

I'm experiencing "harder, more complicated and easier for us to hide any mistakes"

Disappointing to me!

Also what ever happened to the 30 days notice as per their T&Cs?

3.2 Qantas Loyalty will use best efforts to advise Members of material changes to these Terms and Conditions and, where such changes will limit Benefits:
(a) where the Benefit is provided by Qantas, to give Members at least 3 months notice;
(b) where the Benefit is provided by a third party, where possible give Members at least 30 days notice.

Will use best efforts = lawyer speak basically absolving that period of notice.
