Thanks to my godfather for putting my father onto this wine. Great nose, full body and it has legs up to its armpits. Oak throughout and just getting better and better ...

O'Leary Walker do some pretty good Rieslings too! Coming from Clare, to be expected I guess! I think I've had their Shiraz a few years ago and enjoyed it.

Agree, good wines, both the shiraz And the Riesling. I'm having a 2008 Orphan Bank Shiraz (Langmeil), very nice wine.

Jack Mann, way too young. 707 still too young for my liking and will still get better. The Cloudbursts were sensational, especially the reds. Unsure about the longevity of the Chardonnay though.

For those that like Chardonnay, Vintage Cellars currently has 2013 rk on special at $39.99 ea if you buy 6, plus you get a bonus share worth $25 if you're a wine club member. If you combine it with the current Amex offer of $20 if you spend $100, brings it to $195 for 6, or a little less than $33 a bottle!

I drank an rk with two friends over dinner 6-12 months ago and really liked it, but friend that bought it said it was $50-60! Seems to have come down in price a lot. Not sure what vintage I drank - likely 2012, but possibly 2011 or 2013.

For those that don't know, rk is made specifically for vintage cellars by Rick K (can't spell his surname!) of Giaconda, maker of one of Australia's best Chardonnays. But at over $100 a bottle, I can't afford it!

rk is a bigger worked style. Vintage Cellars in South Melbourne had it on tasting 4-7 this evening and again tomorrow 12-4. They also have a reasonable amount of 2011 (odd they don't have any 2012!). Staff member told me that 2011 is a lighter style than 2012 and 2013.

Here in Calgary a work colleague invited me to his place for a lamb roast with the family. Yum!

So I went to my favourite grog shop here, Metrovino . Not huge, but fantastic selection of Europeans, a high quality range of New World and a limited range of good Canadian wines (mainly BC).

We are all red drinkers, so I really wanted a Russian River Zinfandel but horrors! they had sold all theirs, so I made do with one I hadn't heard of, a 2009 Elyse Zin from the Napa. it was OK, the couple of years on it probably helped, but I'll stick with my Russians going forward.



Amazingly, Metrovino stock Rockfords . And whilst I try not to buy Aussie wine when overseas, who could pass up a 2005 Basket Case to go with roast lamb? It was, of course, superb.



I was intending to get a Canadian ice wine for the desert sticky, but when asked what was for desert and I answered fresh raspberries and cream (I was supplying desert), he immediately reached into his fridge and poured me a taster of Ochoa Muscatel. Amazing. Immediate presentation of oranges to the palate. Sold!
