A little different to the asking of medical help-

United Flight 1637 was returning off-duty Air Force Captain Mike Gongol, his family and 157 other souls from their Christmas vacation when disaster struck.
The Boeing 737's pilot suffered a devastating heart attack at 30,000 feet on the way from Des Moines to Denver, forcing Gongol to rush to the coughpit and help guide the plane to an emergency landing, the Daily Mail reported.

Was this kept secret for half a year or who goes on a Christmas Vacation in May?

... Interesting article. Good to see the "good samaritan" thought so little of the FO.

Also stated how "he" had to assess if she was capable of landing the plane in her state and pushes the line of thinking that because she'd never landed at that airport before (off network I assume) it was a big deal.

Frustrates me that the modern media speaks of a "pilot" rather than a crew. The captain and FO both hold the same qualification on the aeroplane, the captain is simply (generally, not always) more experienced and has completed command training.

I feel this individual was attention grabbing. Realistically, all the did was talk on the radio so the FO didn't have to deal with it.

I'll agree with your assessment.
