Saw this on Ozbargain

Here is the direct link to the voucher.

This weekend, big w are having a family and friends deal giving 10% off to nearly everything**
**Exclusions include Apple iPads, unlocked Apple iPhones, Apple iPods, Samsung Tablets, Samsung Galaxy S5, tobacco & cigarettes cartons and packets, all Wish Gift Cards and all Woolworths Limited Gift Cards including BIG W, Woolworths, Safeway,Woolworths Petrol, Safeway Petrol, Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Cellar Masters, Essentials, Groceries Only and Masters Gift Cards.

There is a $50 minimum spend.

While big w isn't a supermarket, it's part of the woolies group and does accept wish gift cards. So for those of you who are able to buy gift cards at 5% off face value, then you can effectively get about 15% (actually, 14.5%) off.

For those of you thinking "why do I care? i don't need milk powder/laundry detergent/cheap low quality household items", big w also sells gift cards for non - woolies group stores. Notably, myer & david jones, dick smiths, and various boutiques. I'm also pretty sure i've seen them sell westfield and westfield xs cards (with activation fees)

The last kicker is of course that you can earn EDR points for the purchase of these non-woolies group gift cards.

Unfortunately for me, i've got a busy weekend ahead so will be unlikely to join in the deal, but I figure there's plenty of people out there eyeing some purchases at dj/myer that they wouldn't mind getting an extra 10% off.

I am slightly skeptical that we'd receive the discount off the myer gift cards etc too?

Pretty much guaranteed that you will. They sell these like a normal product and occasionally do up to 40%off them at times.

The terms and conditions explicitly exclude Wish Cards and others for Woollies brands. But does not explicitly exclude any other gift cards.

Of this promotion or other promotions?

The terms and conditions exclude all gift cards but we are supposed to know only Woolworths gift cards are excluded.

Can confirm you get 10% off non woolworths group gift cards via this promo. No QFF points though. Even a note on the register advising this. :(

If you'd scanned the EDR card first the voucher wouldn't have scanned properly and the discount wouldn't have come off. I tried various ways of combining the EDR card and the family and friends coupon and couldn't get them to work together.

My suggestion is to raise a dispute with EDR for the points using the receipt details. There was nothing on the coupon terms and conditions that the transaction couldn't be used with an EDR card. In my opinion this is deceptive promotion and it is possibly against Australian consumer law.

They had little notices at all the cash registers when I went to (Jesmond) Big W saying it couldn't be used in conjunction with the EDR card... a bit disappointed but not a big deal to me.

.
Yes when we used to have access to the large fuel discounts from WOW and COLES I used to do similar all the time.

So COLES would have say a 40 cent per litre deal going for spending $70 or whatever. If I had no need for groceries I would but say enough GiftCards for Bunnings, or Hoyts etc..

Particularly as I would say rinse and repeat say 3/4 times to last my two cars for the next month before they expired. Was saving 30/40 cents off for so long as between WOW and COLEs you could get a good discount at one or the other for much of the time.

You would also gain EDR or FlyBuys .

This is still adding conditions after the promotion has been sent out. They had the notices at my Big W as well.

Sure enough i didn't get a chance to go into big w this weekend.
Shame to hear that EDR points were not awarded on purchases in conjunction with the offer though.
