ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Maybe I am wrong but I don't think it is 2 points per dollar for the qantas cash card

the promo says double qantas points
the T&C's say 1 point per $ 2 in Australia
So double points = 1 point per dollar

Have I read it wrong ???

I think he means 1 point for using the Visa then 1 more point for paying the bill using Qantas Cash!

I thought the cash card was Mastercard ? and that all up it was 1 point with the double points offer ????

please someone tell me I am wrong so I can get onto it as well

To clarify, it is not the PO that charges the fee. Any fee to pay your credit card etc at the PO is actually charged by the agency principal. Likewise it is not the PO that decides what can and can not be paid by credit card, again it is the biller that makes that decision.

Edit to add: If using your Qantas Cash card at a PO, you need to select credit as the method of payment - savings will not work. Therefore any bill you wish to pay with this card, credit must be one of the payment options available.

Thanks for the clarification. If it costs $2 or $2.95, whoever charges the fee, if I can get another 5,000 points for $10,000 spent, that I would not have had if not paying CCs through Qcash, then I'm all for spending the $2. :D:D

No but you made me read that if I make the minimum monthly payment I will have it fully repaid before my 188th birthday. Excellent stuff seeing I would love to be debt free leading up towards that big 200 year birthday.
Also I received bonus points by putting some SQ charges on the Westpac card.

ATO PMT ~50K with Black AMEX @ 3pts/$1÷2 con rate to KF = 1.5/$1 + 1.5/$ bonus pts 3mth honeymoon period on NEW Black = eff 3 KF pts/$1 @ 1.45c/pt = eff cost 0.48c/KF pt - gotta LOVE that!

Just paying ATO this week and surprised to see I am earning points on the card fee. Every little bit helps.

I've just noticed this thread, ATO payments on my Amex Plat Charge Card is my bread and butter for the bulk of my Ascent Premium points pool. We always apply for installment plans with the ATO to ease the cash flow and then average payments of $70K per month. Once I add this to other spending, I pick up 40-70,000 Ascent points per month! Until they remove this option (or our business goes belly up!), I will never pay for leisure flights again!

I hear ya brotha - I hear ya - or business flts or any other kind of flt one might undertake.

Note: Still no such thing as a free flt - ATO fees + airline T & S's do apply.

Amex Plat Charge Card - won't you only get half a point per dollar?

Indeed, that is very tempting...

Just looked at some accounts. Qantas Amex and David Jones Amex both indicate they can be paid at the PO, although the PO charges $2 for this service. DJ Amex can be paid at a DJ store so no fee involved there, (like Woolies EDCC). HSBC Plat CC 'attracts' a $2.95 HSBC fee (according to HSBC statement), maybe a PO fee as well.

Just have to remember to load Qcash card around 8 biz days before account is due - 4 days to load to Qcash, 4 days for PO to pay.

OK; so what is the process?

I have tried to pay Council rates at the post office with the QCash card. AustPost gives the option of cheque or savings, not credit. for QCash you are meant to press credit. When I try "savings" it says no go.

Do the Amex bills allow you to pay by pressing savings or do you link to paymentfriend?

I still pay for business flights to keep my VA WP status and to not waste my points when the business can fund those (family business so not all my own $$!). I take your point on the 'no free flight' however with the business paying for the credit card (including ATO fees) a VA J Flight MEL-LAX for around 200K with zero taxes is a pretty damn close thing from my perspective!!!!

I do only get half Amex points for every dollar spent with the ATO but I've got a nice high limit on the charge card and save other more valuable point earners for lower limit cards.

Westpac Altitude Black. Triple the points. Just pay, load, pay, reload until tax is paid. No brainer IMO.

I would like to know the answer myself. The Q card can only be used when credit is a valid method of payment.
Mind you, the current promo earn is not as good as it appears. Double points = 2 points per $2 so my Visa earns that and my Big 4 Amex earns more.

Of course it is not credit as you are using your own money; but as far as Aust Post knows it is credit as it is Mastercard.

Well yes, that is true. Just like when you use Visa/Mastercard debit but select credit or paywave/paypass it is your money.
However, the transaction is treated as credit and the merchant pays a percentage of the spend in fees.
Banks etc love this as they earn money for nothing. Some business owners I know pay a couple of grand a month in these fees.

Agree, it would probably work if you could press savings, but if you have to press credit, even though it is your own money, they probably won't let you press the credit button.
Has anyone tried it?
