Hi all,

Happy Mother's day everyone!!!!!
Need some helps in regards to my upcoming trip to Italy (Rome).
My wife and I are planning to go for trip from Australia (Melbourne) to Italy (Rome) in April/May 2015, we would like to travel in J (both directions).
Both of us are SG, I have a total of 400,000 points.

I am considering the following options to buy the tickets.

Option 1 - JASA (use up my points and book J ticket directly using points)
Option 2 - Buy Y tickets and use point to upgrade to J
Option 3 - Classic award (which I won't consider since I won't earn points nor SC)

I have confirmed that the return Y tickets would cost around $5800 (in total). I personally happy to pay for the Y tickets but not sure whether I am using my money and point wisely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Airly!

I would say the best of the three options you have given is the JASA, this will earn SC and points back into your account vs an ASA. Purchasing Y seats and applying for an upgrade is a gamble, and might not come through. Not to mention the flight from dubai to rome (assuming you are going via dubia) will be in economy as you can only get upgrades on Qantas metal.

As an alternative, does your mum have 80k points avail? For 480k points you can get 2xRTW fares in J using oneworld. Rome could be one of your stops?

Only problem is you cannot do a JASA to Rome, it must be a Qantas operated service.

An ASA can only be booked on QF metal with a QF flight number so you will only get to DXB or LHR. To get to FCO you will have to purchase a different ticket (whether it be revenue or classic).
Note that with 400k points you will only have enough for JASA return tickets to/from DXB for both of you (96k one way in J per person), not LHR - which may not be a bad thing.

Thanks for your helps guys!!!
Much appreciated!!!
I think i will just listen to you guys and go with JASA. (but probably only MEL-DXB)

Just want to double check, in regards to the flight upgrade award, understand the condition has to be a QF metal flight.
Does it mean it will work even though it is operated by Emirate as long as it has a QF flight number? (I can see there are flight with QF metal but operated by Emirate, available between Dubai and Rome, QF8095).

Just done a quick search and realised QF Metal means flight operated by Qantas.
Please ignore my question above.
