Am currently sitting on 120 SCs. With an assessment date of September 30 (and the removal of MASAs) there is no chance of me retaining WP for another year, was good while it lasted!

It got me to thinking, has anyone here had their QF status comped an extra year with an extremely low Status Credit balance?

I understand there are a lot of known/unknown factors that contribute to a status comp, just curious about your experiences.

There seems to be a fair few people that have had their status comped for a year. From what I've read on here they are within 150 credits or so from the retaining level.

While the actual logic behind comps is a secret, its believed your SC average over the last three years is taken into account, so its certainly possible to be comped with low SC balances. The lowest I have been comped was 100 or so in the year my Son was born.

A few years ago I got comped WP with 150SC. FWIW the previous three years I had accumulated 6,970SC.

Twas a while back, but I was comped QFF Platinum for extra year when my total SCs earned for the year was zero. The few years prior to that were pretty high earners though.

Evidence suggests that they average the SC earn of the last 3-4 years and comp you to the level of that average. But it isn't official (they don't have to comp you, nor give a 'soft landing'). and when you do maintain status due to having been comped, it is unlikely they will do so the next year.

I got comp gold with 155 SC... That's early notification.. I'm pretty happy.

Was comped SG 11 months ago. Prior to that have requalified for SG for 7 years straight. Reassesment in a month. QF is a non starter from NTL and am VA WP so couldnt care less if they comp me again or not as I can't fly with them from here anyway. The only benefit i may use is an extra bag in international if I choose to burn some points to Europe.

I don't believe the SCs averaging theory when I read stories on AFF of people being gifted Gold and Platinum status when they have never held that status or gotten close to earning that status.

I know someone on AFF who a few years ago was comped Platinum 2 years in a row with ~250 SCs each time.

And there are others who have fallen 5 SCs short and have not been comped. Not even after they have written in asking for leniency.

How do you know when you are comped?
What I want to minimise is a useless comp - i.e. they comp you 1 month prior to expiry when you were due to fly 10 SCs 1 day prior to expiry...

Reassessment date is updated on your profile.

The earliest they will comp you is ~8 weeks from reassessment. Make sure you have the required SCs before that date.

I'll be interested to see whether any of the targets of the simpler, fairer system get comped when their perfidy is exposed. That is those who previously have got their status by ASAs, AA SC runs, discount fares etc but can not now make WP or SG under the new rules.

It holds true for comps of regular status, comps gifting a new status level are obviously different and are done for a variety of reasons, such as saying sorry for abandoning you.

...
That statement is illogical!

I have only ever came across two situations of anyone being granted status by QFF they did not hold - and they was for specific compensatory / fiduciary / locality reasons.

Certainly nothing to do with averaging - that one is specifically in relation to granting a status level currently held.

Weren't there a lot of comps to Gold just a few months ago for people living in the Gold Coast who had very few status credits?
