Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Being the only farang in the party is not unusual, unless you have other farang friends. I hope you can speak Thai.
I have been trying to learn Thai slowly and I am finding it difficult. I can speak a few words here or there and construct some sentences.

I think I will be spending most of my time with my 5 month old nephew who has a better chance of understanding me than the other Thais. ;)

Wouldn't trust the internet on this one, but I get the impression that you are not quite sold on the whipples.

It is a very major op and, if you have no cancer (I hope this is the case) you will still have a hard recovery. Some people can get quite angry in this circumstance, so I suggests king sure you have the opportunity to discuss the various outcomes and likelihood a with your surgeon prior to the operation.

Maybe ask your GP or surgeon to even seek another opinion so that you can be certain that you have chosen the operation with a knowledge of (as far as possible) the relative outcomes?

This post is not meant to make you question the necessity of the procedure but just to reinforce that it has to be your choice or there may be huge negative psychological outcomes, regardless of the result.

Good luck!

been an an 'in joke' for years but finally the wider public get it now..even my 20y old daughter!

Yep, just looked back at an e-mail a mate sent me in 2009 "Once a year Luke Skywalker says..... (pic of LS) MAY the 4th be with you!!" ;)

It has really taken off. I haven't had to it explain it much at all this year.

It was on Big Bang Theory too, so that could explain a lot.

Maybe you and your 5 month old nephew could learn Thai together.

I have been trying to get the engagement organised but not easy being here and my fiancee in Chiang Mai.

Looks like we will have 2 engagement parties.

- One will be June 03 in village at her mum's house with some family and friends from the village. I will more than likely be the only farang there. Not looking forward to it but must be done.
- Second will more than likely be on June 01 in a restaurant in Chiang Mai inviting some of her closest friends and her favourite boss

We can have a chat at Ozfest if we get the chance.

Congrats JohnK.

You're getting good at time travel too - well done also on having the second party before the first! :p

Having never faced a meeting about redundancy, would it be normal to not tell me about an impeding change to my future before going on leave for over a month. Background is that I'm about to disappear on work funded conference* (so perhaps they are waiting until afterwards) but at the same time whole sections of people are getting golden handshakes.

I'm no sure if the 6 weeks leave by the decision maker is a good or a sign of impeding doom on return.

.
* I keep thinking why pay for that to then dump me.

I have been terminated while on Annual leave

My employer at the time, allowed me to go on leave on the Friday, only to call me on Monday to ask me to come in and have a "chat", to which I replied... what, you're sacking me...?

Collected my stuff from a branch I was working at, then went to head office to collect my cheque, my termination papers were signed a few weeks before them telling me the news... Still baffled how such incompetence can happen in an organisation of over 2,000 employees...

Good luck medhead, hopefully you don't get the call while you're on leave, or when you return either...

If your Manager has left before a decision has been made, then nothing abnormal about that situation. If a decision is made during his absence, then his Manager and/or HR would arrange meeting with you on your return [assuming a decision is made at that point]. You could get a Ryan Bingham type as well

I think it'll be fine. But just had a couple of funny things today.

Judging by the others who are going I think the decisions were made some time ago.

Just saw the Bingham reference. I'm not sure we could afford one of those. ;)

Whipples is abig op. You don't do it for fun or practice. Your tumour markers are a concern.. I presume it is CEA? Recovery post op is usually slow and maybe rather uncomfortable ( bloody painful really). Good luck somebol

what is CEA? I am happy to go ahead with the surgery as it is the best option for me. Delaying the surgery and waiting may lead to the tumor spreading which is not ideal.

So my plan is to have the surgery and hope that they don't find anything.

Good luck with your surgery and subsequents results, somebol,

what is CEA?

carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) - A tumor marker associated with many cancers, especially liver, intestinal, and pancreatic.

see here: CEA - definition of CEA in the Medical dictionary - by the Free Online Medical Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Always important to make an informed decision using recommendations from your medical specialists and then go 100%, with a positive outlook. My thoughts are with you as well. Ah, the old PET scan - that was my favourite when undergoing my cancer treatment (and I mean that in a positive way :D).

I think I'm not too far from having a similar conversation. :-|
