Are you sure its worth the $$$ to try retain Platinum give you are so far off?
700 SCs doesn't strike me as a run or two...

How many points do you have/where are you located?

ermen raises a good point. Are you planning any sig O* travel that you need the recognition for? Otherwise you could just purchase QP membership...

There is a possibility I will not have to pay the $$$ for all the status credits as I travel a lot for work which will cover the cost... Though I will still need to do a run or two to make I obtain the required credits

I have 40k points, located in Sydney. I travel internationally 4-6 times a year so the platinum recognition definitely makes it worth while to retain

Plat would fall to gold which still gives QF club access

Ideas on status run thread here http://www.australianfrequentflyer....us-run-options-quick-35258-4.html#post1038674
There is a chance QF will comp you to maintain Plat, but don't bank on it. From posts on AFF the general opinion is you need a high average SC count over the last 3~4 years

This thread would be better in the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program. At one time misplaced threads were moved to the appropriate forum. but those days have gone. It did help with questions like the subject of this thread

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

400+700 = 1100

You need 1200 SC's to retain QF platinum.

So how many SC's will you need from your SC run?

If you are going to Asia before 30 June then look at MH or CX.

Something like BKK-KUL-HKG in MH business class earns 280 SCs and MNL-HKG-SIN in CX business class also earns 280 SCs.

It changes slightly from 01 July.

Thought there is no change of the SC earning for flights within Asia?

Most people are aware of the US changes, but there are flights in Asia too that are affected by the new thresholds. The changes mostly affects flights in that 750 mile bracket and forces them into the lesser earning category. MNL-HKG is less than 750, and BKK-KUL is borderline 750 according to GCM.

"Simpler" means going from one single group (601-1200 miles) to two groups (501-750) and (751-1500). "Fairer" means MNL-HKG losing 20 SCs each way in Business.

Aud$1400 per one way for a trip, book on QF website to fly with EK F to NZ.
I wish I could do that.
It seems though, that at a certain point, the ability to book EK F on QF's booking system drops off. Unless the QF system does not make this available for too far in advance.
In fact, the ability to book anything to NZ on QF's booking system, flying EK J or F seems to have gone.
Not cheap.

Some will change.

There is still value to be found but that totally depends on the value you place on it. For some flying is a hobby so the value would be better.

You would look at approx US$4-5 per SC intra Asia post chamges to QFF...
Would be interested if anyone finds anything cheaper...

I think that after Jul this year, it seems that QF is keeping all their bookings very tightly.
Eg, in the past, you could go onto the QF website, and book F under QF bookings, but flying on EK metal to NZ, as I mentioned above.
But I just had a look earlier on today, for travel or possible in my case, travel on F on EK from Syd to Akl/Chc in NZ, but no, it only now shows (on the QF website's booking sytem), purely QF flights.
Also does not show LA (LAN) flights either.
Our tight coughd friend has gotten tighter.
