You can also transfer the 20k SPG to 25k US DM, however that's not worth it unless you didn't qualify for the latest Buy Miles promotion and are in a real hurry.

25k AA miles at USD 525 works out to be US 2.1c per mile.

Depends where and when, like many places points plus cash rates can be attractive:

Singapore Sheraton $450 a night ++ or 6000 + $110

Spending $500 or so on 20K of points will also buy you 20 x up to 5 night stays at 50% off rack

If you combine it with other offers you can make some very good redemptions.
I booked Hotel Grande Bretagne in ATH for May at 12,000 x 4 (5th night free) at the old redemption rates and combined it with the platinum yearly bonus of 35% so total it's 31,200 points for 5 nights. The cheapest room at this hotel goes for €300 per night.

I have never been able to utilise the SPG50's. I have tried about a dozen times via the Online Chat where the agent would search the hotel/dates but even after the 50% discount there were always better online rates eg. LTO 30% off.
