There's conflicting info on the Virgin Australia site

My girlfriend is flying from LHR to SYD (via AUH). The first leg is Etihad metal, the second Virgin Australia. She has no status (yet!), and I'm trying to work out luggage.

One page says 2 x 23kg, another says 1 x 23kg and a third says 1 x 30kg?!

Fully confused?!

Also - its a Saver fare - is there any way to pay to get it up to Flexi (just the AUH-SYD leg) so I can use points to upgrade her to J?

Thanks

I'm guessing it'll be 1 x 30 kgs, but what does your girlfriend's ticket say? That's what will apply, seeing as there's no elite status to consider. No idea how excess luggage would be tallied in this case, but I assume that EY rules would apply as the first flight is EY metal.

You could call VA and find out what re-faring the flight is going to cost, but it's probably going to be the fare difference + change fee (most likely ending up with an entertainingly large number, but the only real way to find out will be calling and asking). Also, I would assume that you'll need to upgrade the whole lot if one ticket was purchased all the way through.

thanks - i've done the route in reverse and have been able to upgrade just the VA leg before (can't use virgin miles to upgrade etihad leg), but i was on a flexi

Sorry, what I meant was you'd need to pay to re-fare the entire journey rather than just AUH-SYD, assuming that the ticket is for LHR-SYD. Once it's in an appropriate fare class, you should be able to upgrade AUH-SYD.
