Hi Everyone. New to the site and what a great site it is.

My QC renewal is due the end of May and I am deliberating whether or not to renew. Last time I renewed they offered a 2 year for the price of one deal, which was pretty good value, but I am not sure I will get that offer again. Anyone in the know as to if it might be offered again.

Other option is to take adavantage of the gold member deal here. Have just signed up for it anyway but still not sure if the QC club is worth it anymore considering the amount of travel I do. Probably 6-8 domestics trips a year and one or 2 international.+

My problem is that I have a trip to London via dubai departing in May and returning in June and would like to make use of the lounges. Anyone know if they give you any leeway on the membership?

There is a saving to be had, I'd look at how much that is and factor it into your decision. You never know how travel will increase or decrease.

Also factor in that if you choose to get it again in the future, you'll need to pay the joining fee again, adding significant cost back onto it.

Forgetting the use of the lounge as part of the QP membership, what use do you get out of the other benefits such as the luggage?

Not a lot really.

Just the lounge benefits Quick bite to eat and a beer. A shower on stopevers on teh international flights.
I usually only have carry on, so not even luggage benefits.

Whilst I don't think the QP offers the absolute best value (esp if you are a primarily dom flyer), lounge access is also one of those things that you take for granted until you don't have it anymore, and then you miss it big time...
I do a similar level of flying to yourself, and whilst I certainly don't get the best value of the lounges, esp once you start factoring in some J upgrades which would give you lounge anyway, I've also had a few flights on airlines which the QP does nothing, and I can assure you that at that time I certainly missed having lounge access.

Lets work on the current renewal cost of $485, for an individual member. Of course it will be cheaper through AFF.
If we assume you do 16 domestic sectors and 4 international sectors, that is 20 possible visits.
That means the cost of visiting is about $24 per visit. For some food, a couple of beers, generally a comfortable place to sit I would think t was worth it.
If you add in the various other Qantas Club benefits, and the ability to have showers on your overseas trips, I would think it was definitely worth it.
I think in the coming year if you didn't have it you would miss it. No experience but I would suggest Qantas would not allow leeway in your expiry date.

mcguyver,
I will send you the details of QC membership via AFF when I get back to my computer.
The rates are $400 for one year and $709.99 for two years.

If you do renew late Qantas will allow you to then renew and backdate the renewal until when it was due which is better than paying another joining fee. I would not bank on getting lounge access in June unless your renewal has been paid.

Another way to look at things is:

20 flights annually and a couple internationally would most likely get you Virgin Gold which comes with lounge access.
If you're flying discount economy now might be a good time to take inventory of your flying and look at if the program is meeting your needs. Keeping in mind QF/oneworld flights will cost you more over the year and the points you earn have a higher associated burn cost.

This is something I typically do since over the last few years I've had no flying from Jan to May. Although the net saving is zero since they back date the membership, the money is better in my pocket in Feb since I don't have much of a need for the QP in those months... :(

Thanks Straitman. Ill look frward to it.

If you are doing long haul international with connections in Y a couple of times a year then lounge access is a must, it makes the Y flights bearable AND the lounge is a great place to be when there are significant flight delays.

My QF Club Membership renewal is due in May as well and I might not renew. Reason being the new FF benefit scheme. QF does not reqard loyalty anymore. Another reason is the QF/Emirates arrangement. I prefer to stop over in Asia and not in the sand pit. Therefore I fly this year to Europe with Singapore Airlines. Better service anyway.

If lounge access on a limited number of Y longhauls is your major issue then you might consider the AA Admirals Club 30-day pass at US$99 which will get you QF lounge access when flying QF metal.
