Heads up about program changes

So @Red Roo, you're punishing people who stay loyal to the alliance on routes you don't fly by reducing our status credit earn. I can understand on routes where you are a direct competitor. But you don't fly to Orlando, for example, or Philadelphia, or Miami, or San Juan, or any of the other places I'm going on my next trip to the USA next month (luckily before these changes kick in). So why punish me for staying loyal to oneworld and choosing to fly AA?

I'm also in this position. I'm going to the United States twice this year July and October. There are no QF code shares within the states on seperate domestic tickets... I hope there are plans for codeshares domestically in the US on AA. Because if not on those flights I'm just going to credit my AA account.

I'll also note that my leaving point is if QF leaves One World I'm out.

My upcoming trip to the UK in June wasn't cheap for a student... yet thanks to my status and the old earning tables I will be earning 46,102 points. It's a pretty good amount for having to endure 47 hours in economy.

Under the new tables, my earn would be 27,200 points.

This is calculated based on a discount economy earn rate that is doubled, consisting of:

– 3 Domestic Australia Short Flights (these meet the minimum points guarantee of 800 each)
– 2 East Coast Australia to Dubai (9000 each)
– 2 Dubai to UK (3400 each)

I will be 18,902 points worse off under the new system, which quite frankly is a joke. If I'm earning less points I'd expect awards to drop in price too, otherwise I'm now going to be further away from them.

They look like the old tables, with broken links to new tables to me!

oops, looks like my question isn't answered....see serfty's direct question to RR a bit later in the therad

i dont think QF cares about you, or any of us.

If we run a loss, let's blame on the government and unions. it is forever everyones' fault.

I have to say if you can drive a car, that table shouldn't be much harder to take in. You don't even need a uni degree to read it.

Then again, I've also read the table from Air New Zealand Airpoints... even after they deconstructed Economy into 5 different classes.

I can vouch that the method is not simpler than before (now you have to remember a whole bunch of magic numbers rather than just calculating the mileage), but to all those claiming "my head is cracking from trying to read the table" or "I'm going to top myself before I finish reading this", get a grip, seriously.

For those who thought ASAs were here forever, get real. [post=788339]This post[/post] doesn't denote anything meaning they would be around forever, and construing it as such was ill-guided and deluded, and frankly those of you calling out "lies, lies, damned lies" on this should have a look in the mirror if you want to see a straw man. And before you think me stupid - I was at that lunch, so I know what was communicated.

As for everyone going - see you later. Don't let the door hit you in the backside as you leave.

No, I don't work for Qantas, I don't have Qantas shares, and I don't even have any noted status with Qantas. So I'm just rolling with the punches and seeing what this means overall. If that changes how I fly, so be it.

I guess this should mean less "cheap" Platinums in the F Lounge. Due to Qantas points being harder to get and no status earn now, I wish this also meant Classic award prices dropping a bit.

Nicely put! Availability of award flights, upgrades, seating in lounges etc - great stuff!

I never fly QF at all these days so QF won't be losing any business from me anyway. But the first thing I noticed from the chart was the minimum points earn on a flight has dropped from 1000 to 800. Didn't need to look any further after that to see whether QFF members would be better or worse off under the "simpler" system.

I might need to "consciously uncouple" (thank you Gwyneth) myself from QFF

Maybe a move to the Star alliance via Aegean is the way to go

Post of the night :D

I'm up way past my jet lagged bed-time absorbing all of this. From a personal point of view it won't affect me too much ( maybe a year longer to LTG and probably not make WP + PG without a struggle). I'm all for QF doing everything they can to exist as an airline. I personally think that they stand a better chance of this as a strong member of One World. I don't believe that management agrees with me. Time for me to think of life outside the square :(

A few people asking if MASAs booked after 27 March for travel after June will still earn SC and points, please see answer below (Yes, you will is my understanding from Red Roo's reply):

"MASAs" will no longer be available to book after 30 Jun 2014. Travel can be after this date.

Please note, existing bookings will not be impacted.

An important point to make is that any booking made after today as a MASA for travel after 1 July will not credit with any points or status credits because it will credit under the new system. The new system excludes classic award buckets from 'earn'.

See the qantas website:

"Existing bookings beyond July 2014For members with a booking made prior to 27 March 2014 in a fare class impacted by these changes for travel on or after 1 July 2014, we will automatically credit your account within a month of flying with the Qantas Points you were entitled to when you made your booking."

Hi Red Roo, can you please offer some clarification on this (post HERE):

If we were to book a "MASA" in June for travel in September (as an example) in U Class, would we still earn SC and Points?

Yes. You can book until 30 June for travel up to our system range.

Lounges will be much busier when folks realise status with AA, BA and Malaysian is easier to obtain than crediting to QFF ;)

Interesting. I've read a mountain of post suggesting this is not the case. AA being one of the harder schemes to hit being an OZ flyer.

Thank you MASA's (which got me to QF WP) which got me status matched to AF/KLM(SkyTeam), TK(Star Alliance), EY(VA), QR :)

Sad news indeed

Time to burn a few '000,000 QF points?

The F lounge will be deserted, maybe jobs will need to go there!

I wil lask the staff when I am there in the am what they think of job security

Saw this "Cut your way to profit" mentality in my previous role (I was one of the cuts!). Does it ever really succeed? It hasn't with my previous employer, they're due their worst ever result. Will it work at QF?

Since the day I found out I could get QFF points at a Woolies, I knew this "QANTAS Enhancement" has been coming..

I am changing my purchasing strategy.

I am now moving to the very cheapest fare of the day and will not use FF program in any calculation of which airline I fly. They are simply a diminishing asset that is still being devalued. (Much like QANTAS stock price).

Been reading posts for 2 hours and there is something nobody mentioned... **** you Qantas loyalty!

Depends on your class of travel. For us mrsdrron makes WP with QFF but I credit to AA and only get a little more than halfway to EXP on Aadvantage.
However if you are a road warrior and do a return flight every week then those 100 segments get you EXP.

Just drinking with some other affers. One person at least thinks it'll be wonderful that the J and F lounges will be de-populated from MASA and DSC types.

Reckon the MASA and DSC types will just stop worrying about status and buy classic awards instead. They will still be cluttering up the J and F lounges. That's my plan anyway.

It's blatantly obvious that QF want to continue to drive down their customer numbers and revenue to reach their end plan sooner than later. Now that the Government has told QF to "go away" they have no choice but to bleed and burn customers as fast as possible.

But yes do continue to make assumptions about people on here paying for J/F :)

I have millions of FF points in various programs, but never let that get in the way that I spend $50k+ pa on QF which they are at risk of losing to other carriers..

But yes do tell me more, again, about how Amex hates me as a customer pushing $1mil plus through various Amex cards, yes, yes I am sure they don't want me and all the disgusting merchant fees that I generate for them.

You have millions - why worry about it? Spending 50K pa is a decent number and should see you well past WP no worries.

Red Roo

If existing & future MASA (up to 30th June) bookings will earn points & SCs under the old system, what about partner airline bookings (CX, AA, BA etc...) which had been made (i.e. existing) or will be made before 30th June for travel on / after July 1st ?

Shouldn't there be a consistent alignment of rules ?
