As we're seeing now, it wasn't that easy.

I have had fun with Citibank over the years. Very difficult to deal with. I dont really need more points right now but waiting to see how this thread pans out.

Another day - Another email from Citibank:

Dear CRUISER ELITE

Thank you for taking the time to apply for a Citibank SIGNATURE CARD. We are pleased to advise that your recent application for a Citibank SIGNATURE CARD has been conditionally approved. Your application is currently being processed and your Application Reference Number 2014AAAAAAAAA.

This is 3rd approval I have received for 1 applic - all with different applic numbers - Citibank - never a dull moment.

Am not sure the problem, so you could potentially get 3*80K points here? Methinks that's really what people euphemistically call an opportunity rather than a problem.

Well with my strict catholic upbringing - bear in mind in my formative years I was an alter boy - if I was to experience a windfall by way of bonus points which I was technically not entitled too I would immediately contact the CC company and plead with them to reverse those bonus pts transactions!

Or you could take the view that if Citibank gave it to you then they have in their wisdom decided you are entitled!

Ok, so rang customer service to confirm QFF sign on bonus. After momentary hesitation I was told I would definitely receive the 80000 points in 8 weeks after making a purchase. So I went ahead and activated the card and added my QFF details to my account.
Despite the assurance given I am still expecting to have an argument in 8 weeks time. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Are you sure you will get the 80k points? Its only for new customers per T&C's

1. The bonus 80,000 Qantas Points offer is available to new Citibank Credit Cardholders who apply for the Citibank Signature Credit Card by 31 March 2014, are approved and make an eligible purchase within three months of Card approval. Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited within 6-8 weeks of making an eligible purchase. This Promotion applies to retail purchases, excluding bonus partners, cash advances, refunds, balance transfers and special promotions.

What's the usual definition of 'new'?
If I cancel an existing Citibank CC and apply for this in a couple of weeks would it qualify?

Got a letter from Citibank informing me that I didn't meet the criteria for a Signature card so they have given me a Platinum card instead.

This is clearly their standard procedure to down-sell you another credit card so they get some kind of conversion out of the lead, and as is to be expected there is no mention at all about bonus points.

I had a trying experience getting the bonus miles actually credited with their Platinum card a few years ago, so as good as this deal is on paper I'm going to leave it be (and ignore the follow up 'customer service' calls to help me activate the card).

That is a very good question and one I'd like the answer to, too. I have to admit that I missed the word "new" when reading the T&Cs (rookie error!). I already have a Citi credit card and so I'm sure they won't award me the 80k QF points. Am going to call them to see what they say... Groan.

I know this won't surprise any regulars on here much, but Citi said that I signed up for a 60k promo - they have no record of the 80k promo. We did the song and dance around how I managed to get to the link, it's not good enough that I start from Qantas and then hit the Citibank website. So with continuous pressing, they are going to escalate and call me back in 2-3 business days. Can't wait.

I've taken to screen capture with my CC applications as this happens all the time. The Qantas link is still there so you can still capture it. My suggestion, dont wait for a reply, lodge an online complaint, say you have the screen shot captured and you'll be talking to FOS if they dont fix. Funnily enough this seems to get their attention.

Its certainly no surprise - I was lucky I had RM with my Select so immediately forwarded her details and link via email - she sorted it in a day - but I think many others will be receiving the same initial response that you did - hopefully wasn't be too painful for too many.

Right you are - screenshots are essential.

I read somewhere that $1000 spend over 3 months was required? Any truth to this?

Anyone got any tips for best value for the 80,000 spend? Id imagine flights are the best value?

My timeline with the application for this card:
Wed 12 Mar: apply online via the Qantas link, received email stating conditional approval please provide ID and payroll documents for verification (only option given was to fax)
Thur 13 Mar: faxed all documents, 1 hour after faxing received a diferent email asking for the same documents (1 from each column) so emailed back with an extra mobile bill just to ensure they had everything
Mon 17 Mar: received a text message to call Citibank urgently, when I did (went through to a call centre) they had no knowledge as to why they wanted me to call and again just double checked I had sent through all documents. 2 hours later received the same email again asking for the same ID forms 1 from each column.

Has it been like this for everyone or am I just the lucky one?

Yes Sunstar320 I heard that eligible spend for the 80K points is $1000 in first 3 months.

There is no reference in the T&Cs to having to spend $1000, so not sure where this is coming from??

T&Cs that I have read state that you must make an eligible purchase within 3 months. If there are other T&Cs could someone please post them.
