I know the answer will be along the lines of “it depends on yield management” or something similar but does anyone have any experience or anecdotal evidence regarding F or J classic award seats being available for SYD/MEL-LAX over the December-January period? Thinking long term of planning a trip for around two weeks duration beginning either early December 2015 or between xmas & new years 2015 (possibly even beginning early Jan 2016). What is the likelihood of F or J classic award seats being released for this period of travel when the dates become bookable? If the chance is low, does anyone have an opinion on the chances of having two seats released for a WP or CL?
Thanks for any opinions.

They're released everyday at 11am AEST 353 days out aren't they? They don't have blackout periods I dont believe.

check every day. I was lucky to get 2 F and 2 J tickets to and back LHR around christmas.

Yeah sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm talking about Dec/Jan 2015/16 not 2014/15 and yep I know it's a long way off even being able to book flights for this period. Just wondering what this period has been like historically for classic award availability on these routes particularly in F or J.

There definitely is classic award availability for F and J over the December,January period.but out of SYD most disappears as it is released.
J awards out of BNE last a little longer.I was seeing 2 J awards BNE-LAX on some days when AA released their award seats at T-330.They generally disappear within 24 hours then. This was for December just passed.

Thanks for the help all. I will keep an eye out when the time comes and hopefully get lucky.
