Just did an ANZ "Your Say" survey that was testing the idea of a new ANZ creditcard (Visa and Co-AMEX)

This card would offer NO points. Instead based on min spend with benefits like:

-No forex fees
-Free dom flight
-Free lounge pass
-Travel insurance

News on internet about this. Refers to uncapped reward points:

"Apart from a complimentary return flight and two lounge passes a year, the so-called ANZ Travel Adventures Card offers free overseas travel and medical insurance, an interest-free period of 55 days, uncapped reward points, and no fees on purchases made overseas or international retail websites."

Link here to article is Ausbt: ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card: free flight, uncapped points - Australian Business Traveller

I was looking at getting the 28 degrees mastercard.

Both cards offer not transaction fees for international purchases.
28 Degrees is annual fee free.
ANZ card costs $225 but that you be offset by complimentary return flight

So, the kicker is the points. 2 ANZ reward points per dollar (on AMEX) equates to 1 Virgin Frequent Flyer point. And 0.5 points per dollar on the Visa.
Plus the 2 Virgin lounge passes on top

If you have tied yourself to the Velocity mast - its a no brainer.

EDIT - My only question would be what sort of transaction rate ANZ/VISA would be offering.
I've been advised the 28 degrees MasterCard is pretty good...

This card is actually pretty good if you travel to Perth or Darwin. They are listed as a free flight destination from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Wow this really makes the ANZ Rewards Black TERRIBLE value at $375.

ANZ Black - $375:

0.625 earn on Visa (VFF)
1.500 earn on AMEX (VFF)
Plus:
Terrible virtually unusable lounge access

ANZ Rewards Travel - $225:

0.500 earn on Visa (VFF)
1.000 earn on AMEX (VFF)
Plus
2 x virgin aust lounge entries
1 x return flight (with what appears better selection that Platinum edge)

... Rewards Travel card is essentially free once free flight is taken into consideration.

Also Cairns, which is included from MEL.

I don't think I could bear to become a customer of ANZ again. The best part about this product is the domino effect, now that BANKWEST and ANZ now offer premium cards with no fees on international transactions others will eventually follow.

Yeah, we'll probably see more cards since FX transactions will be the one area where issuers can still milk interchange revenue.

Currently holding anz platinum qantas card with free annual fee first year wondering if we call up and change card type to this cards to use for oversea coming up in October , will they charge annual fee ?

I've been searching for a card to replace my Virgin Money High Flyer (after the latest round of enhancements). Will be receiving the new cards in a few days time. The earn rate seems decent enough, although it would be nice if the Visa rate was a tad higher.

ANZ will allow you to change card type, I did it several times, I think there is a form for that but you can do it over the phone.
I didnt pay annual fees due to being in the Breakfree package, so I dont know how that would work.

I wonder if there will be higher tier versions of this card to get your Amex earn to 3 points for the next year before bank Amex matches Visa/MC interchange or this is the start of the new normal.

I wonder what the flight availability is going to be like? BNE-PER/DRW i good value for $225.

Return flight will cover for annual fee i even be happy with SYD - MEL/Adelaide

For SYD - PER / DRW / Cairn you will get more value .

Plus i have a card that don't charge 3% FX Fee while i travel 2 times a year which earn points and don't want to outlay cash with Citibank Plus account .

No one has spoken much about the insurance side of this product. I currently pay something to TID ($500 - $600 I think) for pretty much just the hire car excess reduction. TID has started sending me promos (which seems to be their modus operandi when the policy is coming up for renewal) and I've been pretty unimpressed by the premium escalation with TID in the past few years so I'm about to look in earnest at CC insurance policies to see if I can give TID the flick.

Has anyone done the homework on this one yet.......or do I have to do it myself?

Great looking card, Platinum Edge 2.0 really. However not so happy that it requires $500 minimum spend before getting most of the big benefits...Not that $500 is a huge sum on a credit card, but makes the annual fee seem OTT to me..

Not likely. They will just make it whatever they want. The actual designation of the card is irrelevant to some degree especially now that the 0.80% interchange cap is in place.

The bank can "bin flip" its fleet of cards with permission of the schemes.

For example: The card designation (platinum) doesn't mean that it has platinum interchange. The bank can designate this as "super premium" or "high net worth" at the back end so that it attracts higher interchange without the card holder or merchant knowing. The BIN is the first digits of the card that identify issuer and card scheme.

Its one of the opaque things that the RBA takes issue with. If the merchant is on interchange plus pricing for example they may think "Oh goody, a gold card. Low interchange" however the reality is that the bank has done a "bin flip" at the back end and its actually a high net worth card in drag.

Not that a merchant would ever say "goody, low interchange" but you get the gist.

I note a little snag in the vehicle excess insurance Ts&Cs applicable to myself.
Eligibility criteria
To meet the eligibility criteria, you must:
(a) be a current participating cardholder;
(b) be a permanent resident of Australia ... and
(c) if
(i) you have been an Australian permanent resident or
visa holder referred to in paragraph (b) (i) or (ii)
above for at least 12 months, have spent at least 75%
of that time in Australia......

I work O/S for about 192 days a year, which means I fail the 75% of time in Australia requirement. :(
