[crosspost from the CC section - hope that's ok]

Does anyone know of an Australian credit card through which I can collect AAdvantage awards? Or similar but non-AU that I can easily pay off with AUD (e.g. through PayPal perhaps)?

Thanks.

You won't find a straight through Australian CC which will credit to AA miles, don't think that you ever will. As other posters have suggested, you have to use a round about way.

FWIW, the in the very early days of Amex MR, you were able to transfer to many USA airlines including AA and UA. Upon being questioned about this a representative from Amex basically said they had just copied the basic program from the USA (including redemption partners) to get it up and running.

I did it in America with Citi US this February. I could not see how to do it on Australian credit cards. So far we have picked up about 230,000 AA miles on our two cards and I am experimenting.
One of my AFF colleagues has just got his start this month.

Diners can credit to AA but still more effective to go via SPG because of the 5000 mile bonus if you transfer 20000 points.

Do you have a US residential or work address? I think the intention of this thread was to find out an option for Australians living (and working in) Australia.

Yes Kangol I had looked hard to take AAdvantage of the Australian system but ended up just buying miles from AA when there were bonus offers. Dron is correct with Diners but that card is not really accepted widely since Ansett went under more than a decade ago. I did sometimes buy AA miles using an Australian Citibank card to score 5 Citibank points per dollar on our 4 family accounts but the 60,000 plus bonuses per year is painful.

Actually Diners is fine by me with acceptance as most of my spend now is on travel. Can virtually always use my Diners.
my problem is I don't trust them to get their maths right when giving out rewards points.

Thanks for that update drron. Mrscove has her account in credit so I will give it a try.
Is it still run / miss run by Citibank ? Is it a point a dollar if they get the points correctly calculated?
That low earn rate relegated that card from my wallet.

Still Citibank.still for me 1 point per $.But there is triple point Wednesdays for dining.
Telephone service has improved.Basically though a second line card except for Wednesdays!

I believe the diners card by itself has a different point earn to the diners/MasterCard combo which has a higher annual fee.

I have the Diners card with back up MasterCard that pays 3 points per $1 for diners and 1.25 points per $ for MasterCard.

Points transfer 2:1 to SPG and 3:2 to velocity.

Diners back end systems are woeful so getting the points into your account is another story, their call centre staff seem to have had most of their training devoted to being super polite rather than understanding their products. They are super polite though.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I see that there are signs on the ACs in the USA now that only a certain Citibank card can get you entrance without having to pay to join the AC.

Good question. If anyone comes up with an answer, please post.

I'm fairly certain that no such cards exist. Probably due to there not being a big market for it... "not commercially viable" etc
One way to find out would be to contact AA on Twitter or FB and try and get a response.
